"I am still worried for you both to head over Briton all by yourselves. And unfortunately, I'm backed up with a pressing problem in Albion now, so I need a few days," explained Mavislin, swaying her head.
"We could head over there first to keep an eye out on the area. Then, if anything hostile happens, we could head back and report what is occurring in that area. I'm pretty sure we can hold out over there for a few days. And we're not going to go today or until we have got a clear thing to do."
"That's quite a bold thing to say for such a lady to say, especially when you don't look too sturdy to hold your ground there. What happens if a giant swarm of men is going to rip you apart? You think you would stand a chance with that rack of yours in the way?" said Tomoe, scoffing at me.
Bryan stood up with his face as white as a sheet in a fit of rage. I panicked for a moment as Bryan tried to jump at the fox. Tomoe dodged the angry Slayer by looking at him with sympathy by moving to the side. But Bryan followed up with a backup punch to Tomoe's abdomen.
The Kitsune didn't look too hurt. It seems like Bryan has had enough of Tomoe's snarky remarks and has chosen violence to answer the matter. Before the next attack, I decided to interfere using my own hands.
But, unfortunately, I had underestimated this newfound strength of mine as I knocked out Tomoe by giving him an uppercut. And I was an inch away from breaking Bryan's neck had I clenched my grip. If I had a camera, I would love to take a whole picture of the room.
Ysabeau was stunned but returned to her familiar face as she peeked at the passed-out fox spirit. The High Queen shook her head as she went upstairs. Gillian and Clement went to the kitchen sink to clean up. I thought it was pretty adorable for the head of the house to be doing the dishes.
"With that being said and done, I think Mavislin should consider you to go solo on missions. Do you know how difficult it is to knock a Familiar out, let alone the strongest one of the few of us? Nevertheless, I'm impressed at your strength, and Tomoe deserved that," said Baldwin.
The Dark Mage hoisted Tomoe over his shoulders and checked on the Kitsune's bruise.
"Don't worry, and he isn't dead."
"I thank you for your praise," I replied as the Angry Man walked up the stairs.
Bryan trembled as he fell back to his seat again while mouthing an apology to Raiyen and Mavislin.
"Don't fret it, and I wanted to sucker punch the fellow ever since he tried to steal my girl in front of me. But I wasn't as brave as you to do such a thing. Let alone punch that genius in front of all the Founders. If I had those guts of yours, I would've asked Mavislin out sooner," noted Raiyen.
The Slayer covered his face before asking about the Briton Mission.
"Like what Lady Roydon said, there's no point heading there without a good list of things to do there. Why are you so pressed to go to the place as soon as possible?" I asked, slightly irked at Bryan's impatience.
The Slayer went dead silent as he bit his lip. Then, finally, the man took a deep breath before revealing a tiny bit of information that we should have been told from the beginning.
"Those letters have stopped coming from over a month ago. The Duchess has been sending me those letters every week, and it's halted. But none of the Kings have sounded out about Vernice's silence. I've got no clue about her family since they are quite cold and withdrawn."
As Bryan blurted out those words like a torrent of rainfall, my face went pale. Mavislin looked shocked, as well as Raiyen looked around. Z remained calm but had a wave of anger hidden underneath that tired face.
"Why didn't you say that earlier?! Slayer Verna, please head back to your cabin this instant and retrieve all the letters you've received from the Duchess. Never mind the problem at Albion, I'm getting Rina to get hold of the Mission over there," ordered Mavislin, standing up.
"The problem at Albion isn't urgent?" asked Z.
"It's quite important, but it's not on the top of the list right now. A couple of days ago, Albion got some dam issues due to the flooding, and I was tasked to patch it up. Rina could go over there to do the minimal work first, and I can follow up straight after finding Vernice."
