Agent Ward continues to give Diviya the details…
"We are set to depart in the next thirty minutes in which I have arranged for you to see your parents before we leave, we are the fourth convoy to leave. Chances of someone following the fourth convoy are always slim." Agent ward explains.
Usually if by chance they got word of a fourth and fifth convoy they will race for the fifth convoy and heavy focus will be placed on the third convoy, always forgetting about the fourth convoy leaving room for an easy escape.
By the time they realizes this it's enough time the fourth convoy needs to get lost somewhere, Agent Ward breaks it down seriously.
Diviya slowly gets out of the chair as she looks at Agent Ward now expectantly, "can you take me to my parents?"
Agent Ward leads Diviya down to the mortuary watching Diviya's back every step of the way.
He glances at everyone and anyone, looking this way and that way. He was acting like he was expecting some men to just burst into the station and attack and that's just absurd one would think but not to Agent Ward. He knew exactly what these types were capable of and he was not willing to put anything past them.
They got to the mortuary safely and the coroner was there examining the bodies. Agent Ward ask the Coroner if he had new evidence and the coroner shook his head and went on to point out all he had already told Agent Ward earlier, however Agent Ward listened as he looks at Diviya. Seems like he was allowing her to hear the details of what killed them. Which was of course the impact of the bullet to the head.
With shaky hands and tears that's threatening to spill, she reaches out and gently stroke the branded skin on the cheek of her mother's face. Then uncontrollable tears spills out of Diviya's eyes before she can stop them or even blink them away and it was not for the lack of trying.
She bends and kisses the forehead of her mother and then turns and did the same to her father as she whispers to them "you both have given me a life, you took the best care of me, you loved me unconditionally and you never gave up on me not even in the end." Her voice cracks and she tries to steady her breathes.
"I would find out who did this to you I promise, I don't know how right now but I will find a way, I love you, Mom and Dad." A small sorb left her throat, "Sleep in Peace now."
She lets out a shaky breathe, gathers herself, kisses her mother's cheeks then turns and walks straight out of the room not looking back, not even once.
Agent Ward was on her trail. He led her to the weapons room. He then passes a safety vest to her and told her to put it on under her top. Then he proceeds to pack a bag of weapons, torch lights, batteries, binoculars and other things he deems essential for the night ahead of them.
All packed and ready to go Agent Ward leads her out of the weapons room, down the corridor, out the door unto the open floor, down the steps and out the back entrance in the garage. He nods at an Officer waiting for him at the entrance and the Officer fell in step behind them.
They got into an unmarked police vehicle and were quickly on their way to a motel for the night. Just until they have to take the roads again to head to the borders of the Demon Alpha's territory. They were expected there at 6am for the hand off.
He just needed to make sure Diviya stays alive and safe till then and he was not convinced that she would be if they remained at that station. He was out of his jurisdiction.
He did not know what these types wanted with Diviya and Diviya herself seems to not know as well and he believes her. He wanted to help her, she was alone and she just lost her parents. He would try his best to see her through tonight and maybe look into getting her some financial aid as well. He can start with checking to see if her parents had any insurance.
In times like this insurance money goes a long way in helping a witness or someone in Diviya's position to start over, start a fresh somewhere safe.
While they were cruising along Davidson Street about 45 minutes into their journey, 200 yards to the corner, a T. A car was seen speeding across, when the driver suddenly slams on the brakes and throws in a reverse.
That was no coincidence to Agent Ward and so at this point he did a u turn and accelerated heading back in the direction they came from.
To get back on track he quickly made a right and drove straight down making another right. Agent Ward going above the speed limit he made a left and increased his speed some more, going till they crossed the bridge into Porter's Creek.
Only then did Agent Ward look up and looks back in the mirror and realized he lost them.
Turning he told Diviya that they made it out of the city in one piece. Diviya looked a bit spooked.
Her heart was beating out of her chest, since Agent Ward made that u turn and she looked back and saw a car chasing behind them. Thankfully the last two turns made they were out of sight and she took solace in the thought that those chasing did not see which way they went.
They drove in calm silence as Diviya tries to get her heart rate under control, taking deep breathes in and letting it out. She leans her head back as she secretly hopes and prays they made it to their destination safely.
After what can be a long while Diviya jerks alert from her daze by a vehicle crashing into theirs, hitting them from behind. Diviya, wide eyed staring around frantically, looks at Agent Ward still driving and the Officer is still sitting in the back seat weapon in hand and at the ready.
She cranes her head and saw another car trailing them and she figured they just tried to run them off the road.
"Get down", Agent Ward told Diviya with so much urgency that she immediately did just that.
She gets low and lost her balance while down there when their vehicle was hit again. Agent Ward did his utmost best to try and keep the wheels steady as best as he could. At no time did he want to lose control and run off the road because they will be sitting ducks for sure.
Agent Ward knew one thing and it's that he had to lose this tail before he starts on the path to the motel. He is already out manned only because he did not know who he can trust in that Police Department.
He also knew these roads better than anyone, and so when he was fast approaching a sharp corner he sped up a bit then slowed slightly ensuring that his pursuers were hot on his trail. When they revved up almost hitting him again, he mashes down on the gas just in time then immediately slams on the brakes at the same time pulling the hand brakes and making a sharp right.
Taking his feet off the brakes he mashes gas and got out of the way just in time for the vehicle chasing them to go plummeting over the mountain side.
This is too much.
Diviya was shaking down below, under the dash board. She was scared out of her mind. "They would stop at nothing to get what they want." Ward's words rang loud and true in her ear.
"We are almost there another thirty minutes drive to throw off anyone else on our trial and we will settle into the motel".
Diviya just nods, eyes still wide as she glance around almost aimlessly down from where she still was. Agent Ward left her there as to him that was the best place she can be.
Out of sight!
Thirty minutes later they pulled into the parking lot of the motel. Agent Ward did not want to risk calling in back up so he acknowledged that they were on their own till the hand over.
Agent Ward parks and quickly scans the area. Getting out Agent Ward cases the perimeter while the Officer stays vigilant and on the lookout. Diviya is still low down below the dash board.
Agent Ward then went and checks in grabbing keys to the room on the ground floor far left. He went in, checks the room and the area, then he return to the parked vehicle. Grabbing the bags of weapons, another with clothes he told the officer to take first shift outside the door.
Then he went around to Diviya's side to get her out. Opening the door he reaches out a hand for her to take assuring her it's ok now, she can come out its safe.
Diviya stares at his hand for a long moment….
