61: The true deity (3)

"Xerek I... Is dead. I killed him, " Laith's voice broke as he let out the confession. A chill ran down my body when I heard what he said. 

"What did you say? " I inquired in fright. I hoped that I'd heard him wrong and any moment he was going to let out a laugh and brush it off as a joke. 

His silence set my heart on fire. My body shook, I became breathless, and the world moved in circles. Time was frozen and everything else was motionless except us. I wished that I was frozen in time too, at least that would've spared me from learning that the man I love killed my friend. 

"Why? Why did you kill him?" Ywain raged out. His scream filled the silence in the street. He was burning with fury and wanted answers. 

I knew something was wrong when I couldn't feel Xerek's presence. However, I didn't think much of it. Xerek tends to disappear and reappear at the oddest of times. I figured this was one of those times.
