His people say that he is a 'comeback' child, that he is the incarnate of the dead newborns. How the people arrive at the fact is one interesting concept of this story, known as 'Ogbanje'. So he is seen by other people as evil. In the end, Ndukwo struggles with his people and he is greatly affected by the beliefs that his people hold of him. It is meaningfully interesting to find out how that boy ends his life in the custody of a juvenile court.
