The next day, Ryo received the news that Kentou had embarked on an urgent mission and could no longer continue teaching him in the meantime. The news was delivered by an Anbu; Ryo was almost certain it was Kakashi, given the white hair. The Anbu also handed him a sealed scroll.
"Tenrou-san said that the next part of your training was inside the scroll. That's all," the Anbu stated before flickering away. Ryo looked at the sealed scroll and then returned to the center of the forest, where he opened it and was surprised.
Inside the scroll was the A-rank technique of Iryoujutsu, the Mystic Palm Technique. Alongside it was a small note written in Kentou's handwriting.
"I'm not sure if I'll return from this mission, but that's no reason for you to slack off in your training. I managed to get permission from the Hokage to leave you a copy of the Mystic Palm Technique scroll. That way, you can continue your training. But let me warn you upfront, don't try to master it all at once. An A-rank jutsu is many times more complicated to execute than a B-rank one."
Reading this, Ryo realized that the lack of progress in mastering the third stage of the Rasengan might have been due to his chakra reserves and lack of control.
"But now I can start learning from a scroll the Mystic Palm Technique! Later on, I'll try to find Tsunade to train me. After all, if Sakura could do it, who can't?" he thought to himself.
He left the note aside, not dwelling too much on the possibility of Kentou not returning. Instead, his focus shifted to mastering the new technique. Creating a shadow clone, he and the clone sat side by side, carefully reading and studying the scroll.
They soon realized that it was indeed more complex, given its A-rank status. However, fortunately for Ryo, the technique was structured in a way that resembled the basic healing jutsu he had already mastered.
"Perhaps it was designed this way to facilitate learning for medical ninjas, as if it took years to learn, there wouldn't be so many medical ninjas out there," he reasoned.
But even though the Mystic Palm Technique wasn't too difficult to learn, Ryo knew that mastering it for effective use would take time.
"A jutsu that we can learn with some effort but takes much longer to truly master, making even the mastered version far superior to any lower-level healing jutsu," he concluded.
Over the next few days, Ryo continued his training diligently. He attended the academy during the day and trained in earth elemental release to reduce the number of hand seals for his jutsus to zero. He also practiced taijutsu, control and mastery of his two coins, especially the one with sonar ability, and, of course, the new A-rank jutsu.
It took about two weeks for Ryo to grasp the technique. Forming a sequence of hand seals, a bluish chakra began to appear in his hands, much more intense than that of basic healing. However, the chakra consumption was high, almost 10% of his chakra per minute to maintain it.
"The Mystic Palm Technique is much stronger, but if I don't learn to control it better, I'll run out of chakra before I can heal myself or someone else," he realized.
He closed his hand, dispersing the jutsu, and then performed a single hand seal to create a shadow clone. Over the past two weeks, he had tried to reduce the hand seals to zero, but hadn't succeeded yet.
Creating the clone with 50% of his total chakra, leaving it with 30%, Ryo instructed it, "Use the Mystic Palm Technique on me."
Promptly, the clone performed the hand seals and activated the Mystic Palm Technique, placing it on Ryo's injured arm. Immediately, Ryo could feel the pain in his arm subsiding. However, the clone had a little over two minutes before it would disappear due to chakra consumption, and most of that time had already passed.
"I'm running out of chakra. Get the bandages; the technique didn't fully heal it yet!" the clone exclaimed. As the clone vanished in a puff of smoke, Ryo was already wrapping the bandages around his injured arm, stemming the bleeding.
"Okay, that didn't go as expected. I managed to heal almost 50% of the wound, but I made it too deep for my current mastery of the Mystic Palm Technique. I'll have to practice it gradually, just like I did with the basic healing jutsu," he concluded.
He then placed his hand over the injured arm, an aura appearing as he began to stop the bleeding with his basic healing jutsu. Once his chakra was fully recovered, he decided he would resume practicing the Mystic Palm Technique. In the meantime, Ryo returned to studying the scroll and the accompanying notes, absorbing the correct methods and techniques.
"It's no use closing a poisoned wound or healing someone before minimally cleaning the wound. Cuts from swords or sharp weapons can be closed instantly if there's no poison in them," he noted.
These were simple details but crucial to include, as medical ninjas could close wounds in seconds. If one were in a hurry, neglecting these details could potentially endanger the healed ninja.
"Even though there are jutsus to heal poison and extract toxins directly from the body without opening it up, those are more advanced. Similar to the Mystic Palm Technique, a ninja would have to master several high-rank medical jutsus, and not everyone can do that. Currently, I only know of Tsunade and Kentou who can use them, and maybe some medical ninjas around Tsunade's age."
Ryo paused for a moment, contemplating all this. Soon, all the training he was doing would be put to the real test. He was already halfway through the year; a few more months, and his life as a genin would begin, with real battle situations emerging. Perhaps his luck was that there were still a few years before the plot started to spin in the Naruto world.
"But the world is still spinning, right? In the manga, it starts a few years from now, but little is said about what happens before, at least the small things. Maybe Kentou's mission is something like that," he mused.
He glanced at the scroll once more, returning to studying it. Meanwhile, in a distant location far from Konoha, a squad of ninjas battled in intense rain and dark skies. Lightning, fire, water—everything was thrown in chaotic combat. Amidst the flashes of light, a man fought against a squad of Konoha ninjas.
This man was Denrai, dressed in a curious outfit—a dark cloak with red clouds. As he battled against Asuma, Kentou, and other ninjas, he laughed loudly. " Konoha ninjas! You won't ruin our plans! Hyahahaha! Lightning Release!" More electric explosions occurred under intense rain.
