Chapter 24: On  a honeymoon with her husband

At Ae-cha resident on the Saturday night, her daughter could not come back. She was really worried.

She quickly called Elvis, but the line was busied.

Elvis was drunk and when the phone rang, his wife Fatima, picked it, and seeing the caller ID, she busied the call.

After many times she finally switched off. 'idiot, she is calling, she thinks that she is going to be the mother in –law of the great Bon-Hwa.' Fatima fumed as she switched off the phone.

Ae-Cha could not get through to Elvis until Monday morning.

When she finally reached Elvis he was already in his office.

When the phone connected.

"Elvis, what is the matter with you?" she asked him angrily. She would have loved to find out why his line was not reachable since Saturday, but she was far too more worried for her daughter to start other arguments.

"any ways, where is my daughter that I sent to your precious daughter's wedding on Saturday, her line is not going and your own is not going also?

Elvis swallowed hard his saliva, he was very tensed up, he had been anticipating this moment. How was he going to explain this to the woman? 'that her daughter came to a wedding of her half-sister but ended up being married to the man.

Worst still the marriage was not going to last, just until the Chin Sun was back from where ever she had gone.

While he was contemplating on what to say, the voice came back again.

"Elvis, am asking you, where is my daughter. She is the only thing I have got in this life."

"see Ae-cha, we need to talk in person."

"what!" the woman shouted and threw her phone away in fret. She thought that her daughter was dead.

"hello, hello, hello," Elvis kept calling, but the woman was no longer on the line and was on the floor, panicking and crying.

When Elvis could not get through to the woman again, he knew that the stupid woman would be panicking for nothing now.

He cut off the call and continued with his work.

He would have loved to visit the woman now, but two hours' journey to the next city was not easy for him, so he continued with his work.

After some times, the woman who had recovered called again.

The phone rang several times before Elvis picked it. And said warily to her "Ae-Cha you need to calm down, nothing has happened to your daughter, she is fine. Only that she is married now." He concluded quickly before the woman would misunderstand him again and enter into another hysteria.

"what! Married what! to who, why did she marry in a hurry?"

How can she be married without her knowing about it?, to whom was she married to?, was she secretly engaged to another man other than Boe Ho?

She had so many questions to ask but little answers were coming forth.

"Ae-Cha you need to relax, nothing has happened to your daughter. She is fine, in fact, as a matter of fact, she is on her honeymoon with her husband. I know you would not understand. Relax, I would come on Friday to tell you everything in person."

Ae-Cha calmed down considerably, especially after hearing that she was in a honeymoon with her husband.

She was seriously worried about her daughter. She knew that her daughter was engaged to be married to a young man named Ho. Ho was a frequent visitor to their house, the boy loved her daughter so much, and she was happy her daughter was going to marry a man that loves her.

It is better for a man to love a woman more than the other way round. This was her undoing, she loves Elvis more than Elvis loved her and he had treated her the way that was not good.

She knew that Elvis was not going to come on Friday. Elvis has never kept his promise to her. So she quickly said to him, "please send me her husband number, since her own number is not going though."

Elvis hesitated before replying "sorry I don't have the man's number"

"what! You don't have the phone number of your son-in law? she shouted in shock. "the man you gave your daughter's hand in marriage? You don't have his phone number? Who is the man by the way? And how come my daughter got married in such a hurry?"

she was painting in anger and fear. She was afraid that Elvis and Fatima might have played a dirty game and sold her daughter.

It must be some sort of dirty game, how can a man not have the phone number of a man who married his daughter? it was not possible and the way the marriage was so much in a hurry, there is something fishy about the whole thing.

She started crying immediately.

"Ae-Cha calm down, remember your health, I don't have money to take you to the hospital. Creditors are threatening to kill me."

He had hope to make money from the wedding somehow, but the wedding turned out to be a disaster.

Even the money that Mr. Bon-Hwa had sent to them to prepare for their own part of the wedding, Fatima; his wife had seized the money.

"Remember your health" the man repeated.

It was only then that Ae-Cha remembered that her health was very fragile and if she gets too excited, she might end up in crises, and her daughter who would take care of her is not there.

She tried to calm herself down, hoping against hope that Elvis would keep his promise to her this time around. She has to wait till Friday to know what really happened.

It was a long and anxious waiting. She was already feeling somehow within her telling her that she had already become more excited than normal. But she was hopeful, and where there is hope, there is life.

'how am I sure he would come on Friday' she worried again.
