概要

Consume and adapt to survive. That becomes a motto for Kai, a once average college student, as he loses the person closest to him to a mage and is thrust into a world hidden under the modern one. A world where mages and magic thrive. Where magical monsters of myth roam strange realms. Where mysterious magical associations vie for supremacy while vile and hidden threats build up in the darkness. In this world, Kai must survive, find vengeance, and, perhaps, along the way, save a realm or two. ======== Alternate Title: A Taste of Power Disclaimer: Like my other novel on this site, my writing tends to go slow and build up for many chapters. I hope the story will be interesting regardless, but please keep this in mind. Readability Guarantee: There is one thing I can guarantee, however, and that is writing quality. The plot may not agree with you, but at the least, I can ensure that everything is written with good readability at a minimum and highly detailed action and imagery at its best. ======= Update Rate: 1-2 per day

Chapter 1Prologue I

Kai absent-mindedly chewed on a chunk of meat. It was tough as nails, cooked but yet to be braised. His way of checking for seasoning. He gave himself a curt nod. Not too salty. Almost bland. Just the way she liked it.

Meanwhile, he cut up some scallions atop a wooden cutting board packed with indentations and cracks from years of use.

Biomass Consumed. Current stock: 100/100

Analyzing biomass…

No bloodlines available for assimilation.

Kai continued cutting the scallions into nice, even little circles, just the way his mother had taught him when she still had the energy to cook, and he put aside the pile of green rings to the side with a swipe of his kitchen knife. The smell of simmering, spiced soy sauce-based broth in a water-stained pot wafted through the tiny confines of his apartment.

It had been a few days now since this voice started talking in Kai's head. It was a nondescript, androgynous voice that kind of sounded like the stereotypical, mechanical droning that A.I.s in sci-fi flicks had.

Human and yet inhuman in its complete void of inflection and tone.

Kai had to admit that at first, he had been thoroughly freaked out, waking up with the voice droning in his head about his status and health and whatnot. But that did not last long. Something about that voice calmed him, made him feel as if nothing at all was wrong that a totally random voice was constantly droning on and on in the confines of his head.

Which was a good thing, because it let Kai assess what the voice said with a clear and calm attitude, though he doubted that he was ever the type to really panic that much about anything. One thing was obvious, though – this voice did not speak just nonsense. And as far as he could tell, he was not going insane.

Kai took a look at the kitchen knife in his hand. A cheap thing that he had grabbed in discount at the local store a few years ago.

But he routinely sharpened and took care of it, really squeezing out every inch of its life, and even now, its edge had enough life to it to easily slice through most cuts of meat. Even the thick, wiry cut of chuck that now sat braising in the broth-filled pot, loosing the savory umami smell of cooking meat through the air.

With the slightest second of hesitation, Kai nicked his finger with the tip of the blade. Almost immediately, a thin line of red welled up, but then just as quickly, the wound closed up. Only a few little drew drops of blood remained as proof the wound had ever existed to begin with.

Kai instinctively put a free hand to his head, blinking. There was not just a voice, either, there were words. A black screen at the periphery of his vision that spelled out what he heard, though there was a slight delay as the glowing green words morphed from incoherent scribbles into recognizable English.

For the past few days, Kai had experimented with what this voice told him, and from what he could tell, he could do a few things with it. First off, he seemed to be able to generate some kind of 'stock' that he could visually see as a bar of green at the bottom of his vision.

Using the stock, Kai could get his body to heal scars and even a bout of cold that hit him a week ago, strapping him down with a nasty sore throat. The stock bar would go down, but then after eating food, it would go back up. He noticed that meat of all kinds raised the bar much more than other types of food, but even then, it took a full meal for him to raise the bar even by a measly five points.

In other words, it was much harder for him to replenish the bar than it was for him to use it up to heal himself.

Another thing – as the days passed, Kai felt himself get stronger physically. He had always been a scrawny kid, more skin and bone than muscle and brawn.

All those years skipping meals and staying up through late nights to study and make something for himself did a number on him, but finally, it was like his body was getting the love it deserved.

Muscle started to pad his bones, filling him out to the point where he looked like he at least went to the gym regularly.

Kai shrugged as he took the pile of scallions, cupping them in a hand as he dropped them into the boiling beef stew. He was not going to afford a trip to the doctor to get his body checked up. He would have gone if he were on the literal verge of death, but nothing less than that.

Aside from these details, he had not been able to figure out much more about this voice, this thing that called itself a 'System'.

Trying to communicate it out loud or mentally yielded zero responses, and it seemed entirely automated to react only in response to certain stimuli like eating food or willing his wounds to heal.

It had mentions about 'bloodlines', but he had no idea what this meant, and it was nearly impossible to do any sort of research on it with how vague a term that was.

Not that he had not tried. He had spent probably a dozen hours by now trying to figure out what was going on by trawling through the web, looking for any similar cases to himself, what his voice meant by what it said, and so on and so forth, but no dice.

This was not to mention that whenever he seriously sat down to think about this thing, his mind just felt…calm. Almost tranquilized, in a way, as if the system were responding to his suspicions and actively easing his mind, making him less suspicious, more accepting.

In a way, Kai was thankful for that, because above all else, he had to take care of his mother.

Young Master's PoV: Woke Up As A Villain In A Game One Day

"Now you see?" she shouted in a tone that was somewhere between annoyance and disappointment. "You can’t outsmart Scrients! They’re the most intelligent beings across the two realms!" "You’re right," I muttered, averting my gaze with a solemn sigh. "I made a mistake. I was arrogant to think a mere human like me could fool them." —BOOM!! "...Wh-What was that?" "Hmm? I’m not sure. Maybe you should go and ask the most intelligent beings across the two realms. Oh wait! You can’t. I killed them all." --- My name is Samael Kaizer Theosbane. On the last day of high school, I got into a fight with a kid I used to bully. It was a stupid and pointless scuffle. And in the middle of it, I tripped and smacked my head on a rock. That’s when the memories came flooding in… Memories of a different life. Memories of another world. Suddenly, everything made a twisted kind of sense. I realized two things. First: I was inside a game I used to play in my past life. Second: I was a villain. A villain! Not the cool, mysterious, tragic kind either! No, I was the worst kind of cliché — a spoiled, insufferable, and arrogant young master. The sort you'd find in those poorly written fantasy stories. You know the type! The one everyone hates. The one the hero would beat into the ground to show everyone just how strong and righteous he is. Yeah. I was that guy! My fate was to be a stepping stone for the main characters, be manipulated by a Demon Prince, and die a dog's death. And the hero? The hero was the same kid I’d been bullying all this time. The one I just got into a fight with. He was supposed to be the savior of this damned world. A world teetering on the edge of destruction, beset by wars, calamities, and a grim future that only I knew. And waiting at the end of it all was the final antagonist. The unbeatable nightmare. …The Spirit King. But could I even make it to the end? Could I really survive in a game where defeat was the only certainty? A game that had now become my reality? “Ah, fuck it.” I had no idea if I could. But I sure as hell was going to try. Extorting extras, manipulating main characters, altering the story to my advantage, stealing the hero’s cheat items, killing villains long before they could become threats — nothing was beneath me. Would the main characters be affected by my actions? Excellent! Would the story change? Even better! All I cared about was me. My survival. My life. My choices. “I’ll live this life with no regrets.” ...But as I soon discovered, fate wasn't so easily changed. And the price of rewriting your destiny was steep. ========== Discord Server: https://discord.gg/VjFQtDUaTR

Reincarnated To Evolve My Bee Empire

"Now, go forth, my mortal champion! Conquer this world—or else!" I lived a painfully average life and died by a stupid, stupid accident, but a goddess interfered, giving me a second chance in another world. There, I became royalty—the lazy kind with almost no obligations, free to live in peace and luxury for the rest of my days. Sounds like a dream, right? In reality, it was anything but—because I became *BEE* royalty. A Drone Bee, doomed to die of old age in 2 months! (A humanoid bee, thankfully, but still a bee in all the ways that matter.) The only way to increase my lifespan is to develop and grow my bee colony—a deadly task in a vicious world like this one. There are murderous insect monsters, colossal beasts trampling the earth, other civilizations, natural disasters, and the bitchy patron goddess who absolutely hates me. But as long as I have my brains, my bees, and the powerful genes my system gives me, my Bee Empire will be unstoppable! === For those who want to know more: This is a wholesome comedic story, but it has some dark moments. The focus is on kingdom building, survival as an empire, and interacting with MC’s beautiful bee wife and adorable bee daughters. The bees are all humanoid (see pictures) and human-sized. However, they are still bees in their ways of life and mentality. Although there’s a system, real growth comes from putting effort and time. Nothing happens in an instant in this story, unless it’s trouble. MC acts like an idiot sometimes (oftentimes), but he’s not actually stupid-stupid. When it comes to strategic decisions, he uses logic and reason. Even if you might disagree with it. Also, there will be no smut (ecchi is a fair game), incest, NTR, harem or BL. === Discord is up! Find it at -> https://linktr.ee/Garessta Updates: 2 chapters/day, right after the reset (with a 5% chance of running late). Reply to author's pinned review if you have questions. Also, although I realize the futility of this aim (at least right now), if this novel reaches top 15 golden ticket ranking (and stays there for a few days, obv), I will mass release 10 extra chapters! (within 30 calendar days)

I Can Copy And Evolve Talents

Across the vast convolution of worlds, divine beings rule as absolute sovereigns—each god assigned dominion over a singular realm. Skirmishes are inevitable, whether for power, amusement, or sheer pettiness. One such battle, between Nexus, the God of Trickery, and an aging, senile deity, resulted in an anomaly… A soul misplaced. Elliot, an ordinary man, was never meant for Ul’Tra-el. But fate, or perhaps a cosmic prank, had other plans. Unlike other worlds, Ul’Tra-el is an aberration—one that developed a voice. A voice that diverged from the natural order. A voice that changed everything. Its foundation cracked, leaking dimensions into one another. Rifts tore open like festering wounds, vomiting forth unspeakable horrors—monsters not meant to exist. But the world did not sit idly by. In response—perhaps an act of self-preservation—the world gifted its inhabitants power. Talents awakened, granting people extraordinary abilities. And for every rift sealed, the Voice of Ul rewarded them generously. Survival was simple: fight, grow stronger, and close the rifts… or die trying. In this ruthless, blood-soaked reality, Northern—a white-haired boy burdened by his past life—was reincarnated. But unlike the chosen heroes, he awakened as a talentless nobody. No power. No strength. No future. And when death loomed over him—when despair clawed at his soul and the cold grip of the failure threatened to take him— A Voice responded: [System Notice] [Your Soul cannot take a form.] [Searching for a Unique Pattern Ability…] [Searching…] [Search Found.] [A Unique System Ability has been detected.] [You Can Copy And Evolve Talents] ... Follow Northern through his journey as he becomes the pinnacle of this world. This a story about a white-haired boy’s rise from rubbles!! Note: This is an overpower genre but MC does not just start off like that. Even though MC can copy talents he doesn't just jump around copying talents because there's a limitation. However, his rise to strength is depicted and is an experience to enjoy. The first few hundreds would be frustrating to follow because MC is weak but that makes the experience all the more interesting when MC finally gets freaking strong and starts wiping the floor with everyones asses.
