CHAPTER 15

While inside the carriage, I heard the sound of something being stomped off repeatedly from the distance.

I turned to its direction and saw a group of beasts stomping something in their center.

They are angry while cussing the 'thing' in their middle and then I realized that it is not a 'thing' but a person.

I assume that maybe, that person did something that displeased those group of beasts. That is why I decided to stop meddling with it and focus on my duty in our destination.

Me, Gab and Rie decided to move a month ago after I got out from my seclusion in the Beast Lord Castle's library. Because after all, our presence will only implicate the Beast Lord's goodwill of giving us the accomodations we needed as we just descended eleven years ago. And now, we are on our way to their castle for the meeting that'll be held.

My presence there is not mandatory for it is a trivial matter, 'he' said. But, after learning things inside the book for ten years, I insisted for I want to learn more.

As the carriage stopped for a moment for there is an elder beast who is slowly passing by the road, the group's shouts became clearer.

"You are nothing but a filthy hybrid! You dare get cocky when you heard the Holy Saintess protected one of your kind? She is a holy being! She is not someone you can touch nor look at! You filthy freak!" The man that I suppose the leader kept on shouting at the person in the middle who is busy covering himself from the gang's continuous beating.

I am stunned at that.

Why? Why am I a 'holy person' despite being a Hybrid of the Angel and Divine tribe? While the others are being called 'filthy' and 'freak'? What is the difference of myself to them? I am also a Hybrid!

I know that this kind of scene is not new anymore. The words they kept on throwing to those Hybrids makes me want to question my existence and purpose.

What is good?

Is it the thing that the others sees right?

What is bad?

Is it the thing that the others sees different?

What is justice?

Is it the thing that requires to prove the right and wrong?

What is injustice?

Is it the thing that weren't able to be proved as right or wrong?

What is my purpose? To judge and give the people justice and solve the injustice? Is it to reward the good and punish the bad?

What if... Everything we believe is not right? What if even my existence is like the other Hybrid that the people hates and everything is nothing but misunderstanding?

Can I... Can I hold it? Can I endure it?

Why am I even here for?

I am... Confused.

"Your holiness?"

The man is still shouting and cursing the Hybrid. The man who is being trampled upon kept his mouth shut, gritting his teeth while his eyes are firmly closed. He do not beg for help nor mercy, he just enduring the hardships he is going through.

"Your holiness?"

While me, inside of this carriage is watching him. Pitying him but staying silent.

I am a hypocrite.

I do not deserve to be the Saintess everyone are looks up upon. I do not deserve their love and faith. Because... I am also a trash.

"Your holiness? Are you alright?"

I looked up and saw the worried face of Rie.

I tilted my head and observed her face carefully.

Her pink hair and green eyes makes me remind of pink pearl apple. She is like a walking fruit in my eyes whenever I watch her everyday. It is quiet refreshing to me.

Gab have choco brown hair with golden eyes. He looks like logan fruit.

Wait! Why do I'm thinking of fruits at a time like this?

I turned to the group once again. The gang already left and the poor Hybrid was left behind, curling with the pain he accumulated from those beatings.

Without a second thought, I dismounted from the carriage and ignored Rie and Gab who are trying to stop me. I rushed towards the young Hybrid and crouched to reach the young man. And like an alerted beast, he avoided my hand and rolled a few steps away from me with the alerted stance usually can be seen in the beasts who felt threatened.

Before I can do anything, Rie and Gab stepped in and defended me from any offensive attacks that the Hybrid may do to me. I am stunned in my place and looked at the Hybrid with confusion.

I kept on asking why but no one can give me the answer in my absurd question. I still extended my hand with hope that the man on front of me who is still looking fierce while glaring at .e will calm his heart.

"I am here to help." I said almost whispering.

I am scared.

The Hybrid looked at me then turn to Gab and Rie, then he returned his gaze to me as if he is sensing if there will be trouble of he approach me.

"Who are you? Why do you want to help such filthy creature like me?" He asked.

At the word 'filthy', I flinched.

Yes! I am 'filthy'.

I smiled with the pain I want to hide.

And as I opened my mouth to reply to this man, I admitted the very truth I know myself.

"I... I am Ana. I am... Like you."

I heard Gab and Rie gasp as they turned to me. But my focus is not into them but the shocked face of the Hybrid.

Yes. I am filthy. I really am a hypocrite Hybrid that do not deserve to be entitled the holy name of a Saintess.

I am just Ana. I am just a Hybrid.

I am nothing without that tittle. And to protect my 'kind', abandoning such tittle is nothing compared to the discrimination and persecutions they suffered up until now.

This is the reality.
