Chapter 3- Save Baby!

"Yes, sure, I'll get back to you." Gentle brunette waves covering emerald-like eyes underneath were brushed up by the man on the rolling chair. It was worth noting that those beautiful eyes were accompanied by heavy eyebags underneath. He slammed his phone down on his desk and sighed, "Why are you here Nurse Ellie?"

"Dr. Theodore, your mother is here to see you." Nurse Ellie responded hurriedly.

"Hah... let her in." As Theodore let out a heavy sigh, Nurse Ellie avoided any eye contact before rushing out of the office.

"Theo, my baby!" Why don't you come to visit Mom these days?" A beautiful brunette woman seemingly in her thirties rushed into the office and threw her arms around Theodore, "Oh, how much I missed you, my beautiful baby!" She squeezed his cheeks, ruffling his hair a few times.

Theodore tried to speak through his squeezed cheeks, "Mowm, it'sh working hoursh, you can't bawrge into my offish to dote on me... awnd you know how buzy awi've been."

"Yes, I do, that's why I want my son to come and visit. Look at how thin you've become. At least I'll feed you well. What do you even eat all day? Energy bars and coffee???" Mrs. Vivern pouted, her hands still grabbing her son's face.

Theodore slowly grabbed her arms and brought them down. To rectify the supposed bullseye his mother shot, he added, "It's not just coffee and energy bars, I also eat sandwiches from time to time..."

As if she was about to faint hearing that her son only ate sandwiches from time to time, Mrs. Vivern rolled back her eyes and held her head, "Oh my gosh Theodore. I might get admitted to your department at this rate. Hooo- why did you have to choose to be a doctor???"

"So that I could check up on you once you get admitted." Theodore simply shrugged.

"Oh, what a mean son I have", Mrs. Vivern mourned with nothing left to say to her son.

"Anyways, I actually came to ask you about the blind date your father sent you brothers to. Their mother, my old classmate, was a quite nice and refined woman so I thought meeting up with their daughters wouldn't have been bad, right?" Mrs. Vivern asked carefully. She knew about all her sons' past blind dates and relationship experiences and behaviors. They had been absolute disasters of the 21st century!

While all of her sons were not lacking in their looks -in fact, they were much more handsome than average- nor were they lacking in social standing and wealth, they were continuously rejected by their blind dates. And though they were her sons, she couldn't help but admit that their personalities weren't flexible- no, they were terrible! They could barely even last more than a week like that.

While Theodore was an honest and responsible man, he was also quite ruthless with his truths. He would never lie to please a girl's heart because that, as he says, "...Would only keep the other party in a delusion forever. They need to accept more than just my wealth and face to honestly like me, instead of expecting me to be pretentious."

And while Archie knew how to please a girl's heart, he was too oblivious to deeper emotions, his carefree manner made him too careless, unfortunately. All he ever says is, "Getting into serious relationships is just troublesome. Instead I'd like to be taken to where adventure lies " because that's what, as he liked to call it, "truly living" was.

And her oldest, Jade, was just hopeless. Since he was a reserved man, he barely responded to his dates, his cold looks making him seem displeased with his dates even. Sometimes, he'd even leave behind the girl he's set up with mid-date! When the ladies who were interested despite all that tried contacting him, he'd simply say, "not interested" before blocking their numbers. Whether he was reserved, or just did not like women was a mystery even to his mother.

He snapped her out of her internal desperado saying, "Mm, it was fine." Theodore rubbed at his neck as his mother looked at him in surprise. He didn't say that he wouldn't go to any more blind dates, that it was an absolute waste of time, or that it was annoying but FINE?! This was an achievement, truly!

"My, which interesting young woman has caught your eye for you to be saying that?" Mrs. Vivern spoke with delirious curiosity. Theodore's ears perked up at her question but he didn't respond. 'Interesting? I won't call her that...' He looked at his mother with a contemplative expression, then nodded, "Hmm, it really is time for you to leave, mother."

"Wh-what? You best tell me the girl's name, first" Mrs. Vivern's eyes were wide open. However, an idea quickly churned up in her head. "Alright then. Since you didn't find a match this time either, I'll have your father find another good candidate for my lovely son. Goodbye, dear!" She then twisted her feet elegantly and swayed her way towards the office's entrance.

Hearing her, Theodore was about to get up from his feet to stop her, but his mother's footsteps were quicker. He covered his eyes and groaned in frustration as he fell back on his seat.

"BABY! Mommy's home!" Sierra thwarted the front door open, rushing towards the living room. Her enthusiastically loud voice made the hooded girl peacefully laying on the sofa flinch. At the same time, a little cat in the corner of the room growled in shock too.

"Sierra, I've told you not to enter like that. It scares both, me and Baby." Liliana clicked her tongue as she got up to comfort the frightened kitten in the corner. She picked her up to scratch her chin and nuzzle her gently, whispering sweet nothings. Soon, Baby relaxed and purred in pure delight in Liliana's arms.

Sierra kicked her shoes off and plopped down on the sofa, "Baby's so disloyal. I was the one who picked her up." She took off her jacket and threw it beside herself as she picked up the TV remote, "all you watch is this one animation."

Looking at her sister's actions, Liliana shook her head. She put Baby down and proceeded to clean up the mess Sierra made.

"Hey, leave it there. I was going to pick it up later."

"I know you won't, Sis..."

Sierra couldn't refute that so she quietly turned back to changing channels.

"Oh, by the way, I'll be going out in a bit. Mabel said she'll come early today, and Mom said she'll be late. So you know what to do. Wait for Mabel to come home and cook. Don't go to the kitchen by yourself."

"... I can get hungry before any of them come home. At least some leeway to toast bread., please?"

"No, you need to be supervised for that too."

"Last time I checked I was the adult here."

"Until you burnt the pot while boiling water, yes."

"I- fine. I'll wait. Even if I starve to death."

Liliana spun over to the staircase and spoke with a gentle smile, "good!"
