Magic era: war for supremacy

In an alternate reality, there was an era in which magic reigned as the ultimate power. Individuals blessed with the powers of magic, empires, and kingdoms sort to topel each other, gather resources to suit their desires and lust, and expand their territories. This era was themed as the 'War for Supremacy era.' Born as the first child into the House of Lucas, the royal and ruling family of the Camelot empire, Prince Lucas Zheng was conventionally annointed as the heir to the throne of Camelot whenever his father, the emperor, passed away. Prince Zheng was also passed the burden of helping Camelot and the royal house of Lucas survive for years to come from invaders and conquerors. The task was heavy; the opponents are smart and resilient, and friends and allies aren't what they seem to be. Will the house of Lucas last a long time? Will Camelot survive?

The Dream Bison humbles the emperor

'You are more blockheaded than I imagined,' the Dream Bison said indifferently.

Zheng was annoyed by the reply, but he kept himself from going overboard. He forced himself to calmly say,

"I just asked a question."

The Dream Bison said, 'Which shows that not only did you not gather adequate information from the book you read, you did not understand what you read.'

Zheng sat still with a resting bitch face.

'What is this walking beef tank on?' He thought.

The Dream Bison said, 'Although I haven't read the book, but I'm sure that it states that a light mage knowing about his or her body helps them understand the journey.

'Are you a light mage?'

Zheng said, "I'm a beast tamer. But I'm not sure about that."

'So, you are just like your father,' the Dream Bison revealed. 'Good.'

Zheng looked at the bovine in surprise.

The bovine explained, 'A dragon will always beget a dragon. Sometimes the dragon progeny will have additional prowess along with the inherited ones.'

The prince understood where the bison was going. He, the prince, was destined to be born a beast tamer because his father was a dragon. An additional prowess could be having the powers of an elemental mage, lord mage, or light mage.

'Back to your question,' the black bovine continued. 'Light mages grow by consuming edible magic elixirs. With the power of the elixirs, they refine their constitution to become purer. The purer their bodies, the more magical energy they can reserve and harness.

'The process of refining one's body cannot happen when a light mage can't sense mana and can't direct mana flow.'

Zheng was confused. A light mage's power depended on the quality of their orbs. Hence, their orb should also be refined when they refine their body.

The Dream Bison said, 'A successful body refinement gives the light mage a better brain and proportionally better intelligence. Thereby, they have the capacity to overload their orb with a higher frequency of world energy, which evolves the quality of their orb.'

Zheng mused, 'The body of a light mage is just the point of exchange between their orb and the world.'

The Dream bison gazed away from the prince. A yellow light flashed from the bovine's eyes. The bovine said to the prince,

'Your father is here.'

Zheng instinctively wanted to go and stand beside the bison and place his hands on it. But before he could move, he was in the cave. Emperor Gerald was standing a few metres from them (Zheng and the bison) when they reappeared.

The emperor was studying his son's body and body language to know if the adventure was stressful, but he couldn't pick up any clues about that.

The Dream Bison said to the Emperor, 'What took you so long?'

This time, Zheng could hear the bison talk to his father.

"There was a problem in my kingdom," the Emperor said. "So, I went back to fix it."

The Bison had an inquisitive gaze fixed on the emperor.

"And I successfully fixed it," Emperor Gerald concluded.

That wasn't the answer the bison wanted to hear. The answer, however, conveyed that the emperor didn't want to talk.

'I taught your hatchling the basics of mana breathing,' the Dream Bison said, which incurred a frown from the emperor.

'However, he has low mana sensitivity. But I got him to train his proficiency in the skill.'

Zheng was now standing beside his father on the left. Still frowning, Emperor Gerald tilted his head a bit to the left. The emperor didn't like what the bison taught his son because he felt that it would tempt him to tamper with dark energy. And he felt that his son was not ready to deal with the powers of dark energy.

The Dream Bison knew that the emperor was very angry compared to his countenance. The bison knew that it had captured the emperor's attention. So it cut off Zheng.

The Dream Bison said, 'Your son tamed a Red-back hyena by merely screaming and exuding aura.'

Emperor Gerald's expression didn't change.

The bovine continued, 'I'm not a fellow heaven-forsaken human that can lie to you. Your kid exuded two auras. Both of them being dragon auras...

"What?" The emperor blurted, his expression finally changing to a puzzled one.

…One of the auras was a Red dragon aura, and the other was a great expansion dragon aura.'

The emperor was dumbfounded. He didn't know what to say to the bovine. He turned to his son and asked,

"Did you tame a magical beast?"

Zheng answered, "Yes, I did."

The prince activated his spatial ring, wanting to take out the prison orb and show it to his father as proof.

"Did you just imprison it by screaming?" Emperor Gerald asked.

"No but…

The emperor didn't let Zheng finish talking. He assumed that the prince had just imprisoned the beast, overlooking the fact that the prince had truly tamed the hyena.

(AN: Just so you know, taming and imprisoning a beast are used unanimously. Taming, that is making a wild animal to be calm or harmless, however, will be referred to as 'true taming.')

He turned to the bison and said,

"Is he lying? I don't think he is."

'You impulsive idiot,' the bison retorted, releasing a murderous intent that frightened both men, 'your son really tamed the beast. His screaming and auras frightened the beast, making it vulnerable for him to imprison it.

'Your son tamed a beast without my help. How do you think he accomplished that?'

The emperor was barely holding his ground. He wanted to flee with Zheng before a fight could break out. He wasn't confident that he could defeat the bison. The Dream Bison was equivalent to a Rank 4 magical beast.

The royal men's hearts were beating frantically as they anticipated the bison's next move in the silence of the cave.

Communication with Zheng had now been reestablished by the Dream Bison.

'Hatchling, do you remember what I said about a dragon's hatchling having additional prowess?' The Dream Bison asked.

Zheng nervously stuttered, "Yes."

The Dream Bison said, 'Lucky you; you have an additional prowess.'
