Love in ruins

Jessica was sitting at the bar, nursing her drink, feeling sorry for herself. Her best friend, Emily, tried to comfort her.

"I just don't understand why it always happens to me, Em. Why can't I find someone who actually cares about me?" Jess asked.

"I know, girl. It sucks. But don't give up on love. You never know when the right person might come along," Emily said.

Jess shook her head. "I don't believe in love anymore, Em. It's just a stupid game that everyone plays."

Emily tried to reason with her. "Come on, Jess. Not everyone is like that. You just had bad luck."

Jess sighed. "It's not just bad luck. It's like I'm cursed or something. Every time I try to give someone a chance, they end up breaking my heart."

Just then, a guy walked up to Jess and sat down next to her. "Hey there, beautiful. Can I buy you a drink?"

Jess rolled her eyes. "Sorry, not interested."

The guy persisted. "Come on, don't be like that. I just want to get to know you."

Jess was getting annoyed. "Look, I'm not in the mood for this. Just leave me alone."

The guy got up, clearly offended. "Whatever, bitch. You're not even that hot anyway."

Jess shook her head and took another sip of her drink. "See, Em? That's exactly what I'm talking about. Why do guys have to be such jerks?"

Emily put her arm around Jess. "I know it's tough, but don't give up. The right person is out there somewhere."

Jess looked at her friend and smiled weakly. "Thanks, Em. I appreciate it. But I don't think I'll ever find him."
