CHAPTER 8

After leading me away from Dorn and his bunch of misfits, Goku took me to his cabin, we hadn't been there in a long while, but I still remembered every inch of the place, how we used to run around when we were children, he would chase after me and eventually catch up with me, and I remembered pretending to get hurt, and cry just to make him feel sorry, then I would punch him at the slightest opportunity I got, strange was he fell for it everytime, even when I thought he had learnt.

I could see him through the open door, him, Loden and Mikayo whispered something, and then loden and Mikayo looked at me, and back at him, before they finally walked away.

He came back in, but he didn't seem happy at all, I could tell he was still upset by what happened, or maybe he was just upset with me.

" What were you talking about ? " I asked, once he got inside, he didn't answer, he didn't even look at me " Goku, " I called again, but he didn't answer, " Goku, hey, what's wrong ? " I asked, still no answer, he just walked past me to the other end of the room and sat on a stoll. I knew he couldn't ignore me for long, but instead of waiting, there was something else I wanted to try.

I walked to him and squatted in front of him, looking at his eyes, but he ignored me anyway, then I stood up and thought of playing with his hair, while I whispered his name softly into his ears.

" Goku, Goku, please don't be mad, " I begged, pouting my lips like a child, but he didn't respond, " fine, be that way " I got up and punched his shoulder, " you're supposed to be my friend and now you won't even look at me, what's the use, I'm leaving, " I said, and got up, thinking he would come after me, I walked towards the door, but when I looked back, he still sat there, I got furious " don't you dare come looking for me or try to help next time, I can take care of myself with or without you " I said, and trotted for the door, I looked back, but he hadn't moved a muscle, then I gripped the door knob sadly, and suddenly felt a hand on mine. He was standing right in front of me.

" How did you do that ? " I asked, puzzled at how quickly he moved, one minute he was sitting down and the next he was right in front of me.

" That's just one of the things a werewolf is capable of, we're quick, strong, dangerous, " he said locking eyes with me and moving closer to me in a way that forced me to take some steps back " anyone with brains would think it through before slapping one across the face, anyone... except you Maple, " he said and then walked back to stand by the window.

" So what, I should have just let him misbehave with me ? " I asked, turning around to look at him.

" No, but you could've at least walked away, " he said and walked closer to me " what would have happened if I hadn't gotten there when I did ? " he asked looking even more angry.

" I don't need you to look out for me, I did a pretty good job taking care of myself " I shouted back at him.

" Yeah, but that's the thing, you think you can do anything, take on anyone, but the truth Maple is you can't, okay, that's reality, Dorn is a mature werewolf now, you aren't, he could've hurt you, really bad " Goku shouted back at me.

I grew quiet after hearing what he said, I knew he cared about me, but it hurt seeing as he had no fate in me whatsoever, one look at me and his expression softened, he realized how much his words must've hurt me, but I didn't give him room to apologise, i stormed out of the cabin the next minute, not stopping for even once no matter how many times he called my name.

That evening I didn't feel like going out, Goku's words kept resounding in my ears and it made me feel helpless, weak, I hated it, even more, I hated him for saying those things to me, I wished I could punch him in the face a thousand times, but no matter how painful it was to hear those words, he was right, Dorn was a full fledged werewolf now, and no matter how strong I thought i was, he would've hurt me regardless, it felt even worse having to admit the truth to myself, I didn't like fighting with Goku, he just got back after so long, and here I was picking a fight with him all because he cared about me, i was a total idiot.

" You know the party's outside right ? " Theo's voice rang into my ears, I looked up and found him standing by the door to my room.

" What do you want Theo ? and who told you you could enter my room without knocking ? " I shouted angrily, glaring at the nerve of the man.

" I always let myself in remember, you would never invite me in otherwise " he said. He had a point, I wouldn't have.

I turned away from him, my hands still wrapped around my knees where I sat on my bed, I didn't want him to know I was feeling down, the man had a way of picking up signals to my mood, that's why I always avoided him each time I felt my emotions getting the better of me, that and also because he had a penchant for making me mad.

" What do you want Theo ? " I asked again, avoiding his eyes.

" Nothing much " he said and took short strides towards me.

" So then why are you here ? " I asked, irritated at his behavior.

" I want what you promised me " he said, despite the fact that I was'nt looking at him, I knew he was standing few inches away from me now, his voice sounded louder, closer, and more clearer than before, but what sparked my nuts even more wasn't the sharpness of his voice, but the insanity of what came with it.

Immmediately I turned and dropped my hands from my knees, " what are you taking about ? " I asked, not recalling having made any promises.

" You mean you don't remember ? " he asked, looking appalled, " I didn't think that fall was hard enough to make you lose your memory, but now it seems I was wrong, apparently it did " he said, my memory wasn't all he had to worry about, my patience however had gone down low a great deal, that was the real problem.

" What promise are you talking about ? i didn't make you any pro..." then I remembered, and from the way I paused, he knew just as much as I did that I had recalled making him a promise earlier when we fought. God, how could I have been so stupid ? I thought to myself, feeling the sudden need to hit my head, I landed on the bed, and turned away from the unnerving grin that had begun to settle on his face.

" Do you remember now ? " he asked again.

I'm sure he must have felt on top of the moon, I could imagine a grin just plastered on his face.

" What do you want ? " I asked, feeling defeated, while I waited for Theo's response, my day was already ruined, it wasn't much of a difference adding Theo to the list of top reasons, but I had made him a promise, and heaven help me, I knew i was bound by it. When It came down to keeping my word, I didn't have pretty much of a choice.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, he walked around and stood in front of me, then he stared at me, and then he smiled, and as if that wasn't enough, he spoke.

" The party looks fun, " he said, looking in the direction of the other wolves dancing by the fire place, " but it's no fun going all by yourself, " I already had an idea where this was heading, and I wished I could slit my own wrist if only that would put me out of my misery .

" The thing is Maple, "he said squatting down in front of me, so I had a clear view at his emerald green eyes " I want you... to come to the party with me " he said simply, I hated his request, but I was bound by my word, and heaven help me, there was nothing I could do about it.
