As a child I longed to be able to fly and wield unimaginable powers, to fight villains and monsters and be the courageous hero that saves the day.
My conviction to be the change that I needed remained even after I understood what the word impossible means in that world, I remained hopeful and determined to be the saviour that I desperately wanted to be.
However, as fate would dictate, there is no such thing as a hero in that reality. A world where you wake up in the morning only to work in a job that fills
you with nothing but dread, getting yelled at by your boss who was yelled at by his. A world where the food that enters your mouth provides nothing but the nutrition you require to wake up another day, only to repeat the horrible events that kept you up the night before. Yes, that world was no place for a hero.
And yet here I am thinking: If only I could go back.
Who knew that being a hero only means pain and suffering? Not only for one’s self, but also for those they hold dear. And that while powers can protect you, it will only bring destruction to those you touch. Who knew that getting what I want will hurt me so much?
And still I stand here. Alive. Surviving. Existing in a world where living is no longer possible. Breathing yet somehow dead inside.
Maybe it’s insanity, or maybe it’s desperation that I feel as if I must tell my tale. A proof that I persevered to leave this world behind, and step back into mine.
This is the story of how I survived 180 days in hell, and why I must no longer do it.
