Holding her son tightly, Hou Xiran closed her eyes, expecting the worst. In a second, gunshots rang out, filling the air with deafening noise.
However, the bullets weren't aimed at them.
"Xiran!" Gu Zhiyan's voice echoed with panic, his eyes wide with terror, sweat glistening on his forehead as he clutched a gun. When his gaze fell upon Hou Xiran and their son, a fleeting expression of relief and tenderness flickered across his features.
Hou Xiran stared at him in disbelief. "Gu Zhiyan... who are you?" she whispered.
