Chapter 1Prologue.

The dark figure appeared from between the trees into the clearing. The castle was not too far away now, and despite his heavy breathing and fast-beating heart, he had no time to rest. He would have to make the run now, while it was still dark, before daylight made the open field between the forest from which he had come and the castle a death sentence.

The man pulled his dark cloak tighter around him, the trees that offered protection from the cold wind now behind him. He would have to be stealthy and fast, to escape the eagle eyes of the archers on the walls and the light of dawn that would make their work too easy.

He would have to move like an animal. For him, this was no hard task. A task heavier and harder than this awaited him in the walls of the castle. But he knew that forces greater than him were at work to ensure his success.

When he got to the wall he saw the little bush and tiny slab of concrete left a little open for him. Any ordinary man would never have seen it, but then no ordinary man would've made it this far.

He pushed the slab aside effortlessly and crawled through the tunnel carved by men way smaller than him, replacing the slab in its place. Now only someone who knew it was there would ever find the opening. And even then, it would be hard.

The tunnel led to the dungeons where he had been informed he would have to get past the guards, who lucky for them, were stationed to prevent people from going in the dungeons and not out.

He stealthily moved past them, making a ruffle they assumed to be a rat, and waited in the shadows of the abandoned and overgrown ruins behind the dungeons as he had been instructed.

"We didn't expect you to make it." a deep, rough voice behind him said seconds after he had made himself comfortable on a rock behind a bush, " do you have a message?"

The man took a piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to the deep voice without looking at its owner.

He waited as the person behind him read and burned the paper, the little flame washing the dark in orange, if only for ten seconds.

"Your sacrifice will not be for nothing." the voice said.

When the cloaked figure turned around, the man was gone. The only evidence he had been there, the palace uniform he had left on the grass. The figure took it and wore it over its clothes, almost sorry for the poor guard who had to die to get him the uniform.

It hid the sword it carried in the bushes, hurting at having to part with the perfect blade carved by his father's skilled hands.

And as the rays of the rising sun hit the old ruins of the overgrown ruins, the figure was gone. Knowing he had a difficult task ahead, where failure was not an option. Though not religious, he prayed for patience. He would have to be meticulous with the task.

When everyone else was munching on dry bread, Xiang Ying and her children were savoring sumptuous meals. Everyone grew thinner, except for the three children who remained plump and cheerful, patting their bellies and saying wildly: Mother, we can’t eat any more, really! Xiang Ying, holding hot pot, milk tea, and roast chicken, enjoyed the scenery along the road, hoarding supplies as they fled, making life more flavorful. The villainess mocked her: What use is only having food? You're still a conquered slave! Xiang Ying pulled out the Imperial Jade Seal: Right, from today onwards, I will be the Empress. The enemy army was dumbfounded; she never said the thirty thousand wanderers she brought were elite troops! * On the day Xiang Ying restored her country, the man who accompanied her through hardships held her hand. Jie Chen: For the sake of our three children, can we finally become official? Xiang Ying: Men should keep to their places, not seek a title. Jie Chen: ...With the country as my betrothal, my Jade Seal and my nation are all yours. Xiang Ying: Deal! Tonight's our wedding night!

The Lucky Farm Girl

After dying unexpectedly, she was reborn as a ten-year-old little girl in an ancient farming family, with barely a few rooms in her house and even fewer acres of land, not to mention a household of the old, weak, sick, and disabled. Fortunately, the elders in the family were kind and honest, her brothers loving and good-natured, and the neighbors harmonious and friendly. For Yang Mengchen, who had suffered from her relatives' torment and endured all sorts of mockery and scolding since she was young, this was truly a blessing from heaven. To support the family she loved, she resolutely took on the heavy responsibility of providing for them. If she, a modern corporate CEO who had once dominated the business world, couldn't feed a family, then who could? Pharmaceutical recipes, building greenhouses, opening storefronts... Not only did her family start living a comfortable and prosperous life, but she also led the surrounding villages in creating a magnificent pastoral scene! With money and fame, as she grew up, Yang Mengchen decided it was time to choose a husband, and thus, young talents from around the world began to flock to her. Who knew a grim-faced god of death would be blocking the entrance to the Yang family's home? "You're too tall, you're too short, you're too fat, you're too skinny, you're too dark, you're too pale, you're uneducated, you're deceitful and sly... All eliminated!" In a moment, the entrance was empty, and Yang Mengchen was instantly furious, "Prince, you've driven everyone away. How am I supposed to choose a husband now?" "I would like to see who dares to marry you. I wouldn't mind sending him to the Underworld as a groom!" Yang Mengchen... A certain Prince counted his merits on his fingers: "I have power, prestige, and substance, no concubines, no secret love affairs, no gallivanting— I embody the standards of a husband's three obediences and four virtues... In short, only I, this unparalleled good man, am worthy of you!" The guards: Oh wise and valiant Prince, is it really good to be so lacking in your role as a husband?

The Farm Girl's Charismatic Fortune

By Xishui River, there lived a family with the surname Ruo, whose luck was so disastrously poor that it was as if misfortune was possessed by their very souls. When other families had bountiful harvests, the Ruo Family harvested not a single grain. Their planted vegetables were devoured by insects, their chickens got chicken plague, their pigs got swine fever… Despite the household being full of strong men, they were either mad, crippled, or blind… What would have been a family of great prospects became the poorest within ten miles. The only thing that others envied about the Ruo Family was its thriving male members! The old lady of the Ruo Family had given birth to six sons, who then gave her four grandsons. She dreamt day and night of having a granddaughter. When she finally got a grandchild, to her dismay, the child was mentally disabled: at over three years old, she still couldn’t speak or walk, couldn’t even eat or relieve herself without help. Everyone thought the Ruo Family would never turn their fortunes around in this lifetime! That was until the half-old three-year-old mentally disabled child suddenly called out, “Mom…” The heavens began to change. The world began to turn mysterious. In the Ruo Family’s courtyard, the persimmons ripened overnight. The vegetables in the fields, nearly nibbled bare by insects, turned lush and green. The old hen that had never laid eggs suddenly started laying… While others faced famine, the Ruo Family’s granary was full. The eldest son was no longer mad, the second son was no longer crippled, the third son was no longer blind… The old lady of the Ruo Family, with her hands on her hips, laughed heartily to the sky, “Who says my Xuanbao is a dimwit? She’s clearly a treasure of blessings!” (This is a farming novel with a hint of fairy charm, where the female protagonist in a previous life was a just-awakened daylily that has reincarnated as a human.)
