2.1 Mikage Forest

"Gildarts, why is a job in a place like this? I don't know if anyone would even be here." Kali said as she dodged a tree branch.

"It wasn't requested by someone, it was requested by Fairy Tail." Gildarts replied.

This sparked Kali's interest.

"Oh? This dark, vast forest, that had trees overlapping and covering the entire area, interested them? I can barely see sunlight."

"I don't either, maybe they wanted to build something here? Who knows?" Gildarts shrugged. "Let's focus on the mission. It seems we're here to take down giant golems."

"Giants golems?" Kali questioned as she looked around. "I'd be surprised if a giant golem is actually here."

"It's what it says on the paper. Kill the giant golems in Mikage Forest."

"That's a bit vague, but alright. Let's find where the golems are." Kali said as she pressed her palm onto the ground. "Absolute Awareness."

An invisible barrier spread throughout the forest, it didn't stop until it detected something with an unordinary amount of mana.

Kali lifted her palm and wiped off the dirt.

into the right direction, their base should be northeast of us when we reach them."

GIldarts sighed. "Sometimes, I question the true limits of your abilities."

Kali shrugged and started heading towards the direction where the giant golem was located..

"My magic has no limits. As long as I am alive, my magic will continue to rise boundlessly."

"I wouldn't be surprised if that was true. Anyway, time is ticking. Let's head there quickly."

Together, they quickly made their way through the dark forest that seemed to block any daylight. Kali had to create a small fireball to see around her.

The atmosphere in the forest was a bit eerie, but Kali was used to it by now. It had become normal for her to feel the eerie atmosphere.

There was a loud sound before another loud sound came. Kali changed course and headed towards where the sound came from with Gildarts trailing behind.

Finally, the giant golem came into view. It was a 16 foot brick-red golem with glowing green eyes. Wherever it's foot landed, it would make a stomping noise.

"Hmm, I doubt it uses any magic at all." Kali said as Gildarts appeared beside her.

"But it's figure looks extremely strong, it's durability could be high level. It is labeled S Rank for a reason." Gildarts added.

Kali stretched her body and asked. "Let's not use our magic, we'll be just like the golem and use our physical abilities. How about it?"

Gildarts grinned. "I'm up for a challenge anytime, let's go!"

Kali dashed ahead of Gildarts, she was anxious to see how strong this golem was. Surprisingly, the golem reacted quickly to her. Before Kali could land a kick at it's legs, it stepped back.

"It has a bit of intelligence, that's surprising."

"Nowadays, all types of monsters have intelligence. It just depends if their skill is on par with how smart they are in battle though."

"It seems I've been gone for too long, there's still news that I didn't find out yet."

"Now I want to hear of your adventures, but let's finish this mission first, yeah?"

"You got it."

Together, they attacked the golem from the opposite side. If someone saw them together, they would've thought that the two had fought together for a long time since they were so in sync. But this was their first time attacking as a team.

With two of the strongest wizards attacking the golem, even it's durable body didn't stand a chance.

Kali saw the golem's fist come towards her, in order to jump on top of it, she had to time it perfectly which she naturally did. She ran across its arms and reached its face.

"Gildarts! Go for its legs now!"

"On it!"

Gildarts put all his strength into his arm and punched the golem's leg causing it to stumble forward.

"The other one too!"

"Alright!"

Gildarts did the same thing to its other leg causing it to make a loud groaning noise before falling forward. Kali took this chance to apply force to the back of its head.

While it was falling, Kali jumped and used her foot to apply a huge stomping force on the back of its head causing it to faceplant straight onto the ground.

It's head and limbs were broken into pieces as its body crumbled into pieces before sinking into the floor.

"Without magic, battles seem less climatic. Don't you think so too?" Kali asked.

"Well, this world is all about magic anyway. I couldn't imagine if everything turned physical and magic was removed." Gildarts said, just imagining it sent a chill down his spine.

"Well, is the mission finished or do we have more business here?"

"We should be done, let's head back-"

However, before Gildarts could say anything else, several giant golems appeared.

"Wow, looks like you jinxed it." Kali said with a sigh.

"Oi, don't say it like it was my fault."

"Whatever." Kali said as she looked around, "There's about twelve of them here. I'm guessing this is all of them since there shouldn't be this many in one area."

"Hmm, it is strange. Do you think something or someone could have brought them here?"

"Considering the place we're in, I wouldn't be surprised if someone did lead them here. This forest itself is already odd."

"We'll talk about that later, we need to destroy the twelve golems first." Gildarts said. "How about we use magic? Save some time."

Kali smirked. "I was thinking the same thing. I'll take on six and you get the rest. Whoever finishes them off last has to buy the other dinner!"

"Get ready to pay for my meal."

"I could say the same to you."

Kali turned away from Gildarts and focused on the six golems coming her way. She needed to kill them all as fast as possible, she needed that free dinner.

Nothing in the world is better than food that is free.

"The Essence of Magic, Ice Spear." Kali muttered with her palms pressed against each other.

Mid-air, three spears created of ice appeared and shot at one of the golems at a high speed. When it struck, the spear pierced through its chest. The glow in its eyes started to dissipate as it went limp on the ground.

Kali glanced behind her to see that Gildarts also had killed one. She smiled to herself and performed a few hand signs.

"Time to speed things up a bit."
