Entangled Destinies

She is a practical realist, a lover of science, and a nonbeliever in destiny and magic. He is a demigod King who rules a mythical kingdom with supernatural powers. Evie is a cold and laid-back aircraft mechanic who lives in the urban city, trying to live a mediocre life, just to escape her traumatic past. On the other hand, King Adamos is a conservative perfectionist ruler who maintained the magical Kingdom of Edin in peace and solitude for centuries. What happens when both of their lives get entangled by a playful game of destiny? Would they allow themselves to be entangled in its hands and be transformed by each other’s differences? Or would they try to get out of its clutches and go back to their own fabricated world? ******* Excerpts: His Majesty’s Chamber’s colossal ceiling, which was previously just a bland shade of beige and gray, suddenly transformed into a multi-chromatic one. It appeared like a display of dynamic patterns of brilliant lights that appear as curtains, rays, spirals, and flickers covering the entire sky. The magnificent picture would mesmerize anyone who loves magic and beauty combined into one spectacular scenery. But not Evie. Her suspicious eyes narrowed as she searched for gears in the ceiling edges. ‘The King’s Chamber must be like a convertible car. And that kaleidoscopic display must be the actual color of the night sky here in Edin,’ she analyzed as she scrutinized the structure. She knew how convertible cars work. They have gears with brackets with teeth connected to the primary structure of the roof of the cars. But she could not see any forms of gears. Still, she didn’t believe that this King had powers and that he was showing them off right now. “I know it’s a trick. You cannot fool me.” Evie’s unfazed eyes now darted at King Adamos. He was currently on top of her, ready to take her as was proper for their honeymoon. And they were both lying down on his bed. With his raven locks flowing down his strikingly handsome face and his naked taut chest, Evie couldn’t help but clamp her lips together. If not, they might betray her and speak out her thoughts that for her, he was more beautiful than the display above them. She thought he would get mad at her for sneering at his effort to impress her. But to Evie’s bewilderment, a corner of the King’s moist wet lips curled up. Then he drew near her and whispered in a hoarse and rugged voice, “I don’t care what you think. You are mine tonight, Evie.” ******* Note: Everything written here is purely figments of my imagination. You may find errors, as English is not my primary language. In A Historical Drama?

Evie couldn't believe her eyes. Ms. Huang was wildly waving her hand at her. But unlike Evie, she was wearing the same uniform she was wearing during the flight.

As soon as the exotic bird landed, the Edin man, who was controlling it, positioned himself so he could go down.

But to his surprise, Ms. Huang's arms coiled around his neck, and purred, "Please don't leave me here. I might break my legs if I climbed down alone."

The Edin man seemed stunned as he froze for a few seconds. But he immediately bowed his head to hers and put his hand behind her back and the other under her legs.

In a fraction of a second, he swiftly jumped from the bird to the ground.

Evie gave a sidelong glance at the Edin people as they watched the scene. 'Will they receive Ms. Huang and them the same way they welcomed me? Or will they be cautious of me, knowing that I am not alone?''

The royal guards and servants were whispering to one another while the duke was laughing at Joyce's antics. The Duchess remained stoic, while King Adamos -

He crossed his arms over his chest as his narrowed eyes flickered from Ms. Huang to Evie and vice versa.

As soon as Ms. Huang's feet landed on the ground, she rushed to where Evie was and put her trembling arms around her.

"Oh, my gosh, I never thought I would see you again, Ms. Yang. I thought we're doomed," she almost cried, making Evie glance sideways as she felt the same.

"I'm really glad that the Duke of Athesus found me," she whispered to Evie's ear before she released her and turned towards the Edin man who brought her, with her eyelashes fluttering rapidly.

But as she did so, her fingers flew to her parted lips. "But why are you wearing that?" she touched the leaves that were covering Evie.

Then she looked at King Adamos before uttering, "And why are you wearing that with him? Is he your husband?"

Hearing her remark created an uproar from the royal guards.

Meanwhile, the duke whispered to the duchess with a wide grin, "I knew it. She is Hyouka. Destiny is real."

"Ssh! We don't even know her." the duchess rebuked him at once.

It was on a low volume, but Evie was about to hear it, making her jerk back in surprise. "He is not my husband," she replied immediately, hoping to clear things up before it gets worse.

Fortunately, Ms. Huang got the eyes of everyone again. "Oh, hello everyone. I'm Joyce Huang. I'm a friend of Ms. Yang. It's so nice to see you all." She bowed down repeatedly with an enthusiastic smile.

"Hello, Lady Joyce," the duke mimicked her with genuine excitement as he waved his hands exaggeratedly as she did.

The duchess elbowed him, making both his shoulders shrugged up.

Seeing the serious face of the King, the man who brought Ms. Huang stepped forward and made a bow to him before reporting.

"I found her in Athesus, Your Majesty. She appeared lost and requested assistance. So, I brought her to Paradis."

Ms. Huang cupped her jaw-dropped mouth in horror as she realized whom she was talking to.

"Forgive me for my impudence, your Majesty. I deserve to die." Her hands fluttered in the air before she bowed down dramatically with her head on the ground.

She pulled Evie down with her and whispered frantically, "We should pay respect so he won't behead us. I have seen this in historical dramas."

Then she looked around her before adding, "Where are we, Ms. Yang? Did we teleport or something?"

Evie drew in a deep breath as she was about to answer him before King Adamos finally spoke up.

"Stand up," he ordered the both of them while lifting his scepter.

Ms. Huang immediately did so and brushed her long red hair in place. "Thank you for your benevolence, your Majesty."

"I see now that you are lost in our land," King Adamos rubbed his chin as he contemplated. "Since we do not have a law yet regarding this matter, you are welcome to stay in Paradis for the time being."

Ms. Huang couldn't help but clasped her hands in front of her chest as she quickly complimented, "Thank you, Your Majesty. You are most gracious and kind."

Meanwhile, Evie tilted her head down, as the King already oriented her earlier.

"I will also entrust you to the duchess of Miteia. Be ready, for you will be called at the Royal Meeting tomorrow," King Adamos added, referring to the duchess, who seemed perplexed for a few seconds.

But she immediately bowed down to the King and answered, "It's an honor to serve you, your Majesty." Then she faced them with a plastered smile. "Please come with me, my ladies."

Evie gazed at her, as she knew the duchess didn't like their surprise visit to Edin. But she remained quiet and just followed her, with Ms. Huang, into one of the entrances inside the Palace Halls.
