Prologue

In a dark space without a shred of light, one could see a blue orb floating aimlessly

"Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory".

It's just some cliche quote we see everywhere. Maybe that old man by the store or even you own grandparents advised you, but you just scoffed it off.

Of course I knew this, because I was one of those people.

Death.

It's something that everyone will experience no matter what. I never really put much thought into it. I was just 17 years old, at the prime of my life. I expected death to come when I was at least in my 60s or 70s, and so I resigned myself to that false sense of security.

Sigh, why was I so naive. Life truly is unpredictable. I still remember the bright lights hurtling towards the scared little boy. Such a scared expression he had as he stared at me like the legendary serpent, he tempted me. Tempted me into saving him, and the truck hitting me instead.

I could hear my own bones crack as the truck collided full speed at me. I was my own blood and organs splash onto the road. A truly traumatizing experience, however it was that traumatizing experience that let me keep my sanity in this godforsaken place.

When someone dies, they expect to go somewhere else right? Heaven or Hell, maybe even get reincarnated with a couple of wishes. So why... why was I here.

I could not see, smell, feel, or even hear anything in this place. It was just endless darkness as fas as the eye can see. There was no god to help me, it was just me on my lonesome.

1 hundred and 10 billion, 8 hundred and 61 million, five hundred and 68 thousand.

That was the number of seconds that I have been in this place. Even that is not an accurate reading, since I did not start as soon as I entered the void foolishly waiting for some god or even a savior.

I forgot most of my past life. I know I had parents, maybe a sibling or two, but now they just come up as shadows. Memories filled with black shadows frolicking about. Could you imagine it? People you knew, who you most likely loved being just mere black shadows in your memories. To have forgotten what it means to smile, and be happy?

Perhaps, the great being that had been torturing me finally had his fun or maybe another god had interfered and took pity, suddenly I found myself being bathed in brilliant light. The first light I had seen in millions of years and it was truly magnificent. I felt like crying, but unfortunately I had no physical body.

Light bathed me in its brilliance. An unfathomable joy came over me as my thoughts and worries were washed away. There was a searing pain as I felt my soul being pulled towards something, but I did not care. Only one thought ran in my mind at that moment...

...I am free...
