Chapter 21 : The Calm Before the Storm

Raquel’s POV

“You can stop following at any time you know,” I said over my shoulder,

“I’m not following you,” Regulus said tersely. “I’m merely walking in the same direction. DO NOT—Do not pick up speed, Ra—RAQUEL!”

It was a tad cruel of me, leaving His (panicked) Highness in the dust, but St. Urtha’s seemed so remote from any slavers or other bad elements that the worst Regulus would have to deal with was pickpocketing children. Gods, he needed to give me space. We both had been through a lot. The outside air would do us some good, but he kept fighting me at every bend and turn.

He’d been sullen ever since we stepped foot outside of the monastery and into town.

It only occurred to me as he stood there, like a fish out of water, a good head and shoulders above most of the humans, thanks to his Sidhe height, that he’d likely never seen so many humans in his life.
