Chapter 26: Second Thoughts

CHASE'S POV

Grey's shiny, black Tesla purred at the curb outside Devlin Towers Friday morning as Chase emerged from its polished revolving glass doors. The bright and hopeful day completely contradicted Chase's foul mood. Barclay opened the back door for her as she neared the curb and a hint of a smile graced his usually drawn face.

"Good morning, miss."

She forced a tight smile and slid into the back seat, the rich smell of leather welcoming her as she did. As the car pulled away, her hand impulsively flew to the door handle and for an instant, she thought she may jump out. But as Barclay quickly picked up speed, Chase settled uneasily into the seat, clutching her stomach.

She'd never second-guessed major decisions in her life before, but she was definitely rethinking marrying Grey Devlin. 'What was she doing? Why had she ever agreed to marry a man she barely knew?' She thought she might throw up.
