Chapter 11.Awakening

Chapter 1: Awakening

The world was a blur when Darius first opened his eyes.

A searing pain coursed through his head, as if his very soul had been torn and reshaped. His breath was erratic, shallow, his senses overwhelmed. He couldn't remember how he had gotten here, but one thing was clear—the moment he awoke, something was… off.

His hands trembled as they rose to his face.

Sharp fangs grazed his lips, and he recoiled. "What the hell?" he muttered under his breath. His voice—deep, rich, and unnatural—shook him further. The last thing he remembered was being alive in his old world, but now? Now, he was here, in a new body, in a new world.

His heart… no longer beat.

A flash of panic surged in his chest, and Darius forced himself to sit up, surveying his surroundings. He was lying on the cold ground of a dense forest, the thick scent of damp earth and pine needles assaulting his senses. Above him, the sky stretched wide, painted with the early hues of dawn.

But there was no time to soak it all in.

As his senses began to sharpen, a cold realization hit him. His body wasn't his anymore. The feeling was… alien. The strength of it. The power—unnatural and intoxicating. He could feel the pulse of life around him, but more than that, he felt an immense hunger gnawing at his insides.

It was something primal, something beyond his control.

Darius' eyes flickered as he reached for his neck, only to feel his fingers brush against the sharp tips of his fangs. He froze, horrified, but then something far more alarming caught his attention—a small flicker of information flashed before his eyes, like an interface overlay, but it wasn't coming from any system. No… it was just there.

The information was shocking, but it was clear that he was no longer human. His mind raced. A vampire? Blood Sovereign? How had this happened? He could remember nothing. His body was not his own anymore. But the most pressing concern was the pain. A searing thirst gnawed at him, something deep inside him, and the reality struck hard: he needed blood.

Darius' hands clenched into fists. His senses felt unnaturally sharp, every sound and smell amplified. The pulse of life around him was deafening, and yet, all he could think of was the ache in his throat—the burning hunger that seemed to consume his very existence.

His fingers brushed his fangs again. The sharp points felt like knives under his skin. "I'm not normal anymore," he muttered, his voice a growl. "This is… insane."

Mission (In Progress):

• Feed on a living creature to quench your thirst.

It was clear. He had to feed. His body craved it. It wasn't just a matter of hunger—it was desperation. The bloodlust burned, but he forced himself to stay calm. He couldn't afford to lose control. Not yet.

Darius stood up, unsteadily at first, his hands gripping the earth beneath him. His senses felt overwhelming—he could hear the rustling of leaves far off, the chirp of distant birds, and the unmistakable beat of a creature's heart. His feet moved on their own accord, pulling him toward the source of the scent. He didn't know how or why, but his instincts were pushing him forward.

Each step was faster, surer. The hunger was clouding his mind, but his body had a mind of its own now.

And then, he saw it.

A small, deer-like creature. It was feeding on some grass in the clearing ahead, unaware of Darius's presence. The scent of its blood hit him immediately, like a punch to the gut. His fangs elongated, his vision sharpening as the creature's blood seemed to call out to him.

He couldn't stop himself.

But then, he hesitated.

He didn't know what he was doing. Was it right to simply attack this innocent creature, this defenseless animal? Was this how he was supposed to survive?

For a moment, he faltered, but the hunger in his veins overpowered his doubt.

His eyes narrowed, and he stepped forward, but before he could get close enough…

A rustling noise came from behind him.

Darius whipped around, startled. His fangs flashed as he instinctively prepared to flee. The world around him was shifting, and every sense screamed that something was wrong. His mind raced, trying to make sense of the situation. This was too much. He wasn't ready for this.

His body moved before he could think. Darius bolted into the forest, away from the clearing, away from the creature… away from whatever else was out there. His heart—if it still beat—would have raced, but instead, the thirst drove him forward, deeper into the unknown.

Mission (In Progress):

• Feed on a living creature to quench your thirst.

The hunger gnawed at him, relentless and unforgiving. There was no escape. He needed blood. Now.

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions be known. Thank you.
