Chapter Fourteen

Talia's POV

My heart was pounding like crazy as I looked over the crumbling wall. Down below was Cassius, this massive wolf-monster, fur matted with blood and fangs bared. Every breath he took made his huge muscles ripple.

I'd never seen him like this before - more animal than man. A shiver ran down my spine thinking about what Vera said about the crucible and being worthy. How was any of this horror worthy?

Cassius snarled, lips curling back to show dagger-like teeth. Part of me was disgusted and terrified. The smarter part said I should run. With the enemies around us and the monster Cassius had turned into, I didn't know which to fear more.

Then this guttural howl ripped through the air. Cassius tensed, ready to pounce. I couldn't look away as he launched himself into battle.
