Robert considered whether it was wise to continue, even to Joe. How could he confess to anyone, let alone another male, what he had come to believe. But he did need to talk. To someone whose sense he valued.
'She's not been playing by the rules.'
It sounded so petty. What he didn't say was: she couldn't keep me from knowing so seduced me, neutered me.
'Jesus Murph, who does? I've seen you bend them plenty of times.'
Robert shook his head. 'There are things I've let go on for too long to say anything.'
'What things?'
It was one thing to want to talk to someone. It was another entirely to do it.
'If you don't want to say, don't. But if you don't like whatever it is why haven't you stopped her? Have you talked to her?'
'She told me to mind my own business.'
