Chapter 24: Limits

"Bravo! Bravo! What a good show. You lower class beings are always such a treat to manipulate and slaughter!"

Godfrey frowns as he looks at this deranged humanoid.

He stands at roughly 1.9 meters tall. He is incredibly slender and looks almost serpentine in structure and appearance. He has an out of place goatee and it makes him look a little odd. His eyes, however, radiate a potent power. They are akin to molten lava.

The being in question dramatically bows.

"It is an honour to finally make your acquaintance young man. I am Saxcis. I have been watching you for a while now."

Godfrey merely frowns and ignores Saxcis as he asks.

"Are you responsible for the destruction on the base?"

Saxcis whoops and claps.

"Woohoo alright, no nonsense. I like it."

In the next second, Saxcis lands a crushing blow to Godfrey's jaw. The blow is so strong that the ground under Godfrey's feet shatters.

Godfrey is confused at the manner in which Saxcis appeared. It was almost instantaneous. Godfrey recovers and throws a jab towards Saxcis' face but completely misses as he hits nothing but air.

He's then sent flying as Saxcis grabs his outstretched arm and tosses Godfrey into the cavern wall.

*BAM*

He quickly recovers but is once again stunned by a blow to the jaw. He looks up and Saxcis is back at his previous position as if he never moved.

Godfrey floats down from the crater in the wall and readies himself for another round.

Saxcis merely smiles and Godfrey is hit by a telekinetic blow so powerful that it crushes every bone in his body.

"AAAAARRRGGGHHHH!!"

Godfrey screams as he feels every single broken part of his body. He pierces through the cavern walls and emerges from a mountain as he is flung out at high speeds.

On Earth

Ambrose is currently holding up a car and helps a civilian get out from under it. He drops the car and pats the man on the shoulder while he laughs.

"HAHAHA, next time don't ride a scooter attached to the back of a car. It can prove quite fatal. The authorities will handle things. Be safe citizen."

Ambrose then leaps onto a building and is prepared to leap once again until he hears his phone ringing.

He answers his phone and a government agent relays some bad news.

"Mr. Gallahad sir. We would like to request for your assistance in investigating the Mars base. We've lost contact with them for over 3 hours."

Ambrose's eyes widen as he agrees and rushes home at his fastest speed. He lands aggressively on the courtyard and slams the door open.

"CALANTHE! Something is wrong in the Mars base. We must hurry!"

Calanthe exits her room with anger on her face.

"If anything happens to my son, then you'll pay."

Ambrose nods and they both make their way to the Alliance headquarters. There they don their hero costumes and board a spaceship. Calanthe seethes in worry and rage while Ambrose looks out of the window as the ship starts flying.

'Hold on son.'

On Mars

Godfrey pierces through 3 mountains and craters a fourth one, reducing its total volume by half.

Godfrey lays in the crater, gasping for air. He struggles to get up as his body slowly heals and strengthens.

'Ah pain. Combat really is the only way.'

He looks up and see Saxcis sitting by the edge of the crater while swinging his legs. Saxcis looks at Godfrey with disappointment in his eyes.

"Come on young man, you're so much stronger than this. Don't tell me you're done?"

Godfrey snarls as he explodes towards Saxcis and delivers a blow with all his strength. Saxcis merely extends a hand.

*BAAAAAAM*

The rest of the cratered mountain is violently torn apart by the force of the blow. Godfrey, however, is in disbelief.

Saxcis is casually holding back his trembling hand as he shakes his head.The serpent squeezes and Godfrey's bones creak.

"No, no, no. Come on Godfrey."

Saxcis strikes Godfrey with a jab, but the young man deflects the blow. He places a hand on the serpent's chest and a ball of lightning explodes.

Saxcis is sent flying out of the crater and he catches himself while rubbing his chest in disbelief.

'What? How did he land that strike? He moved so much faster.'

A lightning bolt interrupts his thoughts as it sends him crashing down into the ground.

Saxcis gets up from the ground, but kneels down as lightning wreaks havoc in his internal structure. He looks up and sees that the clouds have darkened to almost pitch black. Lightning gathers inside the clouds, threatening to explode.

Godfrey rushes the serpent and delivers a punch that shatters his cheek. He rolls backwards and clutches his face in pain.

Saxcis snarls and appears instantaneously in front of Godfrey once again. A long knife materializes in his hand and stabs deep into the young man's gut.

Godfrey grunts in pain and ragefully growls as he grabs Saxcis' arm. He rears his head back to deliver a punishing headbutt, that sends the serpentine menace skipping and rolling away.

Godfrey watches as Saxcis skips away, and immediately leans his head to one side as a blade passes by his head.

Saxcis clenches his fist and roars.

"HOW ARE YOU DOING THAT? This is not the lesson I wanted you to learn!!"

Godfrey rushes towards Saxcis' but is thrown away by another telekinetic blast. Godfrey is slammed into the ground and Saxcis grabs him by the leg. With ease, the serpent throws him into the sky while shouting.

"Fine, I'll beat my lesson into you."

Saxcis claps and Godfrey is crushed on both sides. He pushes and strains as his body gains power at a rapid pace. Godfrey looks deep inside and sees that he is at 49%.

'This is astounding. This body was built for combat.'

Godfrey roars and lightning bursts forth from his body, shattering the crushing telekinetic force. He glares at the snake and uses his lightning to augment his speed. Faster than Saxcis can react, Godfrey materialises a lightning spear and pierces through his abdomen.

*SQUELCH*

"AHHHHH! YOU DIRTY LOW CLASS MONGREL!"

Saxcis crushes the lightning spear in his grip and kicks Godfrey away. Godfrey is no longer flung out as he corrects himself on the ground. He rushes back at Saxcis and unleashes a savage combo.

He jabs towards the serpent's face and crushes his nose. He parries a retaliatory elbow and shatters Saxcis' kneecap with a kick. Undeterred, Saxcis unleashes a headbutt and has one eye gouged out by Godfrey's fingers.

"GRRRIIIAAAAK I'LL KILL YOU!"

Partially blind now, Saxcis doesn't see an incoming blow to his ribs that lands with a titanic force.

*CRAAAAAAACK*

He kneels down and tries to breathe but blood comes pouring from his mouth.

"Bluuuurgh!"

Godfrey condenses a lightning axe and chops it down at Saxcis' shoulder.

"GAAAAAAH!"

An arm drops to the ground and Godfrey grips Saxcis by the throat as he lifts him up. He looks at Godfrey with his one eye and asks incredulously.

"How? I've been keeping track of your progress. You've hit a plateau in your growth! You were supposed to beg me to take you under my wing when you saw my power!"

Godfrey says nothing and stabs a lightning knife into Saxcis' leg.

"AAAAHHHHH!"

Godfrey answers.

"Training with weights and the gravity chamber could no longer allow me to progress. Fighting powerful opponents, however, is a proven way to break your limits."

Godfrey slowly increases the voltage of the knife and interrogates Saxcis.

"Were you the one who manipulated the Mars base and the M'hakians?"

"AHHHH YES I AM STOP PLEASE!!"

Godfrey continues.

"What did you mean when you said we were lower class beings? You do not look like a god to me."

"AAAHHHK IT JUST MEANS YOUR CIVILIZATION LEVEL IS LOWER THAN MINE!! PLEASEE!!!"

Godfrey ignores him.

"Do your people know you're here? How far away are they?"

"AAAAAHHKK. NO. FAR!!!!"

Godfrey stops dispels the knife and drops Saxcis to the ground.

"Why did you attack us? What did we do to gain your ire?"

Saxcis grumbles inaudibly and Godfrey leans closer to hear him.

"What did you- oof!"

Saxcis kicks Godfrey in the chest along with a telekinetic push that sends Godfrey into the distance.

Saxcis screams in impotent rage.

"I'LL KILL YOUUUUU!!"

Saxcis' eyes glow and the sparse mountain ranges tremble. Godfrey stops himself in midair but is slammed back down by a colossal amount of rocks dropping on top of him.

Mountain after mountain is piled up on top of Godfrey and is compressed into an even denser material by Saxcis.

Godfrey is crushed and all of the bones in his body is once more turned to fragments. His consciousness blurs and his mind fades to black.

FLASHBACK

Godfrey is sat on his divine throne and looks to his defeated opponent as they ask.

"OH MIGHTY GODFREY. WHERE DO YOUR LIMITS LAY?"

Godfrey replies arrogantly.

"I have none."

END FLASHBACK

Godfrey opens his eyes and lightning pours out of them.

"RAAAAAAAAGH!!"

Saxcis piles one more mountain on top of the pile and condenses it further. He breathes out in relief until a truly colossal superbolt cracks into the condensed pile.

He is blown away by the sheer force and electrocuted by the electrical energy present in the air.

Godfrey emerges from his makeshift prison and looks to his hands. Energy pours forth from his very cells, and it feels as though the essence of lightning is calling out to him.

'Incredible.'

Another mountain crashes into Godfrey's form but is atomised as it gets close. Saxcis screams at the young man.

"Damn you human! You think I've lost? This changes nothing!"

He swings his remaining hand again and again as telekinetic blows rain on Godfrey's body.

The young man is flung further and further away until, suddenly, the blows become useless. Godfrey then waves his hand and says.

"You are no longer needed."

Godfrey waves his hand and Saxcis is shackled by electrical chains.

"AHHHHHHH"

He screams and falls into unconsciousness.
