My eyes slowly fluttered open, and the world came into view.
It was a blur of shapes and muted colours, and a heavy, disorienting pressure filled my head as consciousness seeped back into my body.
I groaned as I tried to sit up. My limbs felt weak and unresponsive, as if I was trapped in a waking dream.
Where was I?
There was a constant beeping sound, and I looked around. An IV line was connected to my arm, and I immediately recognised where I was.
I was in the hospital.
Why was I in the hospital? I clearly remembered making my way to the office this morning, right after I dropped Noah at school.
At the thought of my son however, a memory slammed into my consciousness, assaulting my senses and turning my limbs into jelly.

My heart pounded like a war drum as I remembered, a wave of dread washing over me, drowning out the remnants of my grogginess.
