An Icy Death

Unknown POV

I was looking forward for the upcoming school trip for weeks. It was supposed to be a break from all the stress of the exams. The school had surprised us to be honest, they had never taken anyone to a trip outside the city.

Our destination was a beautiful lake frozen due to the cold weather, It felt nice to be free and get a break from your daily boring life which kept on playing like a record.

To be honest the lake felt like one of those you would probably see on a winter postcard. And after being there for about an hour I started to get bored. The novelty of the Lake was long gone, what do you expect when you are not supposed to do anything and just roam around.

That was until someone from a different class came up with an idea of Who could walk the fastest and farthest on the lake without slipping or falling.

Now I was not going to back out of a challange and being bored was also added fuel to my already growing excitement. I mean who wouldn't be excited to get to see people fall on their butts and trying to balance their bodies on the slipping ice.

So, all the boys gathered at the edge of the lake where the ice was supposed to be thickest. Everyone was buzzing with excitement and seeing people try not to slip and fall was funny.

Soon my turn came and my friends started to cheer for me "Come on dude"" Let's Go".

Taking a deep breath I stepped on the ice and feeling nothing wrong with it I started to walk as fast as I could without slipping. Everything was going smoothly I had taken 11 steps so far and was balancing myself a bit before going further. I mean 11 steps? thats hardly impressive right?. I was about to step a bit further when I heard a sound - as if the ice was saying something.

*crack*

A deep, ominous crack was all I heard before the ice beneath me gave way. Time seemed to stretch as I fell because it all happned in a second.

It was like something out of a nightmare - The water was freezing and the moment I got in contact with it, my body tensed up and it felt like I couldn't move.

I tried to swim, kick my legs and get out of this lake but it was all for nothing, it was as if the icy water was quicksand the more I moved the more I sank. I could barely keep my head above the water, and every movement seemed to make things worse.

The shouts of my classmates was distant, my brain was unconsciously ignoring it and was trying to keep myself floating.

I Panicked and started thrashing around desperately trying to find something solid. My hands were trying to grab the ice at the edges but everytime I got a good hold it would crack and fall into the water. I slowly started to not feel my body and I knew it was because my muscles were freezing up. I tried to shout for help but words barely escaped my mouth.

I could see the sky, a total contrast to the dark water I was being swallowed by. Ever been asked what it would feel like to be trapped and not being able to escape well I got an answer to that.I could hear the voices getting closer but it was too late. The cold water was too intense, and my body had already started to give up on me.

With each passing second I was sinking in the cold water, I could not breath and my lungs were getting filled with it. I could no longer hear anything and was just sinking further below. It was like I was sinking into a different world, one that was dark, cold and silent.

And then, everything went dark.

White

When I first opened my eyes all I saw was white. It wasn't just that I was seeing white but more like being enveloped in it. It felt as if I was in an operation theatre. The walls - white, the bed I was laying on-White, The Crib- White. Waite a second a crib?. I tried to move, wiggle a bit but it was as if my control on my limbs was lost.

Gathering all the strength I brought my hands up to my face, which were small and pudgy.

It took me a moment to process all that. A few moments ago I was sinking then everything was dark before I woke up here. There was no fact denying it or I could be wrong but it appears like I have been reincarnated as a baby. I had actually reincarnated like an isekai protagonist. It all seemed too strange to be real, but the evidence appeared in front of me.

[Ding!]

It appeared as a translucent screen floating infront of my eyes, my infant brain struggled to understand what was happening.

The interface had a notification that read: [Monthly Spin Available].

I blinked, a Gacha system? Seriously? The kind of system where you try your luck to get random rewards? now this was too cliche. I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry.

The screen had four slots, each labeled with [Spin] looks like, I have four spins to use. My curiosity got the better of me, and despite being a baby, I managed to focus on the spinning icons. I thought, 'Why not? What's the worst that could happen?' and mentally willed myself to spin.

The first spin landed on [Character Templates: Ayanokoji Kiyotaka]. The description read, {Character template of Ayanokoji Kiyotaka. Grants enhanced strategic thinking and psychological manipulation skills.} Well, that was interesting, having some of Ayanokoji's traits might come in handy.

The second spin resulted in [Skill: Thought Acceleration]. The description was, {Allows rapid processing of information and ideas. Enhances cognitive speed and problem-solving abilities.} That pretty useful. It might help me outsmart whatever this place I was at.

The third spin gave me [Ability: Fire Immunity]. The description was, {Complete immunity to fire and heat-based attacks.} Well, I wasn't expecting that. Not that I had any immediate plans to deal with fire, but it was nice to have just in case. Maybe this place had some fiery surprises in store for me?.

The fourth and final spin granted me [Ability: Temperature Immunity]. The description was, {Complete immunity to extreme temperatures. No adverse effects from cold or heat.} Now the system was mocking me and thought, 'Wow, what a great time to have such a skill..' Not having to worry about the temperature seemed like a practical perk, but It would have been great if I had it earlier.

So, there I was: a baby with a Template of a Perfect Human, superfast brain and immunity to both fire and extreme temperatures. I guess the Gacha system had its perks, and if I wanted to survive and make the most of this new life, I'd better get used to it. My new reality was definitely going to be a far cry from the ordinary high school life I once had.
