Fiendfyre

After 10 o'clock in the evening, Ethan appeared in the Room of Requirement on time and received more than ten pieces of parchment from Peter. These were all written by him today.

For the past two days, the main focus had been on Transfiguration and Alchemy, and now he was writing about spells and potions.

Today, Peter had written about the principle and use of the Fiendfyre Curse.

At this rate, Peter's brain would be drained by tomorrow.

After requesting a room to practice magic, Ethan walked in.

Inside, there were several large targets, specially used for testing magic. In addition, there was only a set of tables and chairs, serving as a resting area.

In the rest area, Ethan began reading Peter's notes about the Fiendfyre Curse and his experiences with successfully casting it.

When learning the Fiendfyre Curse, a specific spell wasn't necessary, but one had to remember the magic route and release the magic power.

The most important thing was to have a feeling of destruction deep in the heart—releasing an inner desire to destroy and converting it into tangible flames to burn everything.

Emotion was crucial. If it wasn't strong enough, the spell wouldn't work.

However, due to this strong desire for destruction, the Fiendfyre Curse was extremely difficult to control and could easily backfire.

Ethan mulled over this.

He couldn't cast it without strong emotions, but if his emotions were too intense, it would be hard to control. Thus, the curse was not commonly used. But Ethan had no such concerns.

First of all, thanks to his talent "Heart of Darkness," which enhanced his black magic skills, he didn't need emotional assistance to use black magic.

In other words, as long as he mastered the magical framework of the Fiendfyre Curse, Ethan could cast it whenever he wanted.

Furthermore, his "Flame Affinity" talent gave him natural control over fire magic, making the two talents a perfect combination.

However, for his first attempt, Ethan still needed emotional assistance to get the hang of it. Once he grasped the feel of the spell, he would be able to skip that step.

He began following the magical route that Peter had detailed on the parchment and then condensed his destructive emotions into flames.

Soon, a wisp of heart-pounding red flame floated out from the tip of his wand and began rapidly expanding.

Although there weren't many flammable materials around, Ethan's magic power served as the perfect fuel.

The flames kept growing until the tables, chairs, and targets around him were engulfed in a sea of fire.

During this process, Ethan continuously adjusted the direction of the flames, eventually shaping them into a fire tornado revolving around him.

If Ethan could see his status panel at that moment, he would have noticed that in just a short time, his proficiency in the Fiendfyre Curse had jumped to level three.

It was the result of his combined talents—his black magic talent, wizard talent, spell talent, heightened thinking abilities, along with the boost from the "Heart of Fire" talent. Together, they were formidable.

As the flames grew more intense, Ethan felt not that he was losing control, but rather that he was becoming more adept.

Eventually, Ethan stopped feeding the flames with magic, causing the fire to cease expanding, though he still maintained control.

Gradually, the fire tornado began to separate, transforming into creatures like fire phoenixes and fire dragons that danced around the training area.

Ethan found himself thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Was this magical transformation?

After some thought, Ethan concluded that it wasn't. True magical transformation involved altering the very essence of an object, not just its appearance.

Right now, it was merely the nature of the Fiendfyre Curse; its form looked like a fire phoenix or a fire dragon, but its composition was still Fiendfyre, without any abilities of a fire dragon or fire phoenix.

"Mjolnir!"

A thunderous sound echoed in his ears as a massive hammer of thunder, over ten meters wide, descended from the sky. It smashed the fire phoenix into a burst of sparks, which rained down but didn't extinguish.

With a thought, Ethan gathered the sparks and shaped them into a giant wolf made of flames that began running across the ground.

Sure enough, even powerful magic couldn't extinguish Fiendfyre. It had to burn until the magic fueling it was depleted.

Ethan speculated that the reason spells like the "End of All Curses" could handle magic like Fiendfyre or Fire Release was that they essentially used one's own magic to extinguish the magic—using magic to counter magic.

The Stop of Curses worked similarly. Ethan had already learned this spell, which could cancel the casting of other spells and block incoming magic attacks. The End of All Curses was an upgraded version of that.

As he became more proficient with the Fiendfyre Curse, Ethan walked closer to the fiery inferno. His intuition told him he wouldn't be harmed by it.

Trusting his instincts, Ethan placed his hand inside the fire dragon made of Fiendfyre. He could feel the heat, but it didn't hurt him. Even his wizard's robe remained intact.

How foolish it would be to get burned by his own magic!

However, when Ethan tried to dispel the Fiendfyre, he found that he still couldn't. The flames persisted as long as there was magic power left. Perhaps when he mastered the Fiendfyre Curse to its fullest, he would be able to control it more freely.

Thankfully, this was all happening inside the Room of Requirement. If it had been outside, where there were more flammable materials, things could have gotten out of control, and who knows how big the fire would have been.

After exhausting most of the magic power in the flames, Ethan left the Room of Requirement.

When he checked his status panel, he saw that his proficiency in the Fiendfyre Curse had reached level six. It was the fastest he had ever leveled up any spell.
