Long lost friend

8 years after the invasion from extraterrestrial beings, life on Earth was slowly but steadily getting back on track. With the power earned from who knows where humans were able to put up a fight against foreign beings.

Although the battle between them and foreign beings was devastating, people were able to protect a small portion of lands in different regions, which were now the only human settlements, they lost more than 70% of the population.

The remaining humans made shelters to be safe from the invasions and were able to fight against them, which were now turned into villages or cities where people lived.

At one of the villages, inside a room that seemed to be a room for a child as the bed was too small for an adult to fit themselves comfortably.

In that room, a woman with light blue hair was cleaning the room while a young man who seemed to be around 17 years old was standing beside her, with his back resting at the door.

"Aren't you done now? We're already getting late." The man said getting a little impatient.

But the woman in front didn't answer him. So, he spoke again,

"You planned to join the academy, and to start training from today, but here we are just 10 min away from getting late." The young man said while looking at the clock in the room.

He then continued," I heard the instructor is very strict and won't tolerate any kind of mistakes, and if we went late on our first day, I can't imagine what would happen to us. But, don't worry, I will take all the punishments for you. As your childhood dearest friend, I can at least do this much for you, right?"

The young man tried to sound funny by saying that line and to brighten up the mood but that didn't happen at all.

"Sophia? Sophie." The young man tried to call the whose name was Sophia but with a concerned look on his face.

The man whose name was Bibek and the girl Sophia had been friends from their childhood and they had been together for many years, so they understood each other very well even more than their parents.

The reason for concern of Bibek was, that Sophia was holding the pillow of the bed for nearly 5 minutes without saying anything, and he knew why.

The room they were in wasn't theirs but belonged to their childhood friend, who got separated from them during the invasion and it's been 6 years since then. They didn't get any news about him and his parents.

The forces who went to investigate there didn't find their corpses, so everyone thought they were eaten by the monsters. But Sophia didn't believe them and kept saying 'he was alive, he was alive'. No one believed her and said ' she couldn't accept the truth that her friend was dead.' well except me.

Then, suddenly one day approximately 6 months before, Sophia came crying to Bibek, her blue Sapphire-like eyes were filled with tears that rolled down her chicks, she wasn't able to utter a single word clearly, her whole body was trembling and she kept crying.

Bibek was unable to think of what to do, so he just patted her back while holding her in his embrace. He couldn't watch her broken like that so he hugged her tightly not to let her go.

And after a while, he asked her, "What happened?"

Sophia didn't say anything and kept crying, but after some time she spoke," l- l sob c-can't ... I can't sob sense him."

She told him in between her sobbing. But he couldn't understand who was the ' he' she talking about. So, he asked her, "Who can't you sense?"

But this time she replied immediately," Ravi. I can't sense him." Then again she started to grimace in his embrace, soaking his shirt with her tears.

Bibek wasn't bothered by it, but the name she just spoke... 'Ravi'. It was the name of their childhood friend who was thought to be dead. Though, he couldn't understand how was she able to sense him till now, but be thought it to be related to her superpower and didn't ask any further.

There was a tinge of pain in his heart, but he ignored it because he knew the reason, and pondered about something else, 'she couldn't sense him? Does that mean his friend died-'

Before he came to a conclusion and thought about how to calm Sophia down or ask her anything further he saw Sophia slowly move and looked at her.

Sophia who was sobbing just now, her face dreadful, slowly regained her colour. She stopped crying and slowly got away from Bibek's embrace looked around her and a small smile appeared on her face, though it was hard to notice it but Bibek did.

He was puzzled for a moment, just a while ago she was crying and now this, but before he could say anything, Sophia spoke.

"I-I can sense him. I can sense him." She was joyful and hugged Bibek again.

But contrary to her Bibek was feeling something else, although he was happy that his friend was alive something inside him felt bitter.

Being together with Sophia since childhood, he knew she loved Ravi and it was the reason why she always came to clean his room, even when he wasn't there. So that one day when he returns, he won't have to do the work.

He knew she loved him deeply, well even more than deeply. But he couldn't help himself and fell for her. He loved her so much that he couldn't express it in words. He loved her so much that he could even forget about that love if she was happy to be with someone else.

He tried to tell her that he liked her, loved her but couldn't. Even now when she is hugging the pillow and maybe thinking about him, where he was, what was he doing? He wanted to pull her up and tell her he also loved her and would do anything to take care of her and make her happy, he wouldn't let her be sad ever again. But he couldn't, he just stood there staring at her with eyes that knew his silence would lead him to his regrets, and he accepted that.
