Chapter 8: Tea
I was never the hard headed type. I was an obedient kid. My uncle loved me for that. Causing trouble is not my forte when I was a child. It is, however, becoming my forte now.
Curiosity kills a cat—thankfully, I am a rat. So I probably won't be killed today.
I waited for the elevator as I sipped on my coffee. The executive floor is no joke. The lounge area was a whole house inside the building. I was not even surprised to see a lounge area just for the executives. And since I am an executive secretary, I figured that I was part of the group and took the liberty to get myself a high-quality instant coffee.
I wanted to go with them but the moment I was out of the office, there was no one in sight. They were just gone, poof gone.
"Ms. Loera."
Startled, I almost spilled my coffee before I quickly turned to face the one who spoke. I almost had a heartattack.
"Where are you going?" Ms. Alderei asked as she stared at me as if I was committing a crime.
"I was waiting for Mr. Willards and Mr. Celestino to come back." I flashed a bright smile at her and drank my coffee.
"You can wait for them in your office. I figured you had other things to do?" She tilted her head slightly and raised her eyebrows.
I missed her smile when we were at the lobby. That brow is gonna kill me!
"Or if you feel lonely in the CEO's office, you can go to my office and accompany Ms. Summer." She said and gestured to the corridor.
It does not sound like I have a choice with her gesture and her commanding tone. I walked towards her office. It felt like daggers were getting thrown at my back as Ms. Alderei did not leave her stand as she waited for me to reach her office.
Did what happen so private that the secretaries are not allowed to know? Instead of dying because I satisfied my curiosity, now I'm dying because of my curiosity.
This is by far the weirdest first day of work I've ever had in all of my jobs. Secretaries are supposed to stick together with their bosses and now my boss is nowhere to be seen.
I stopped walking when I was in front of Ms. Alderei's office.
Ms. Zephrine Alderei
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
The office was not as big as the CEO'S but it is still bigger than any normal office room. There is a set of sofas in the middle and the table of Ms. Alderei is in front of the huge floor-to-ceiling window that overlooked the town.
There at her own space is Megan busy with her computer.
"What is happening?" I asked Megan.
"Just the usual situation." She said, still looking at her monitor.
"This is a usual situation?" I wondered.
"Yeah, just let it go." She said.
I hummed and nodded as I looked around the room. This usual situation is very unusual for me.
"How's Mr. Celestino as your boss?" Megan asked and stood up towards the coffee machines at the corner of the office.
"I have never talked to him for more than one minute. Mr. Williard was very kind though." I watched her as she make her coffee.
"Mr. Celestino is really kind you know? I wish he was my boss." She sat on the empty space of the sofa next to mine.
"Ms. Alderei does look like she has a temper," I said and remembered Ms. Alderei.
"On the contrary, I've never seen Ms. Alderei snap. She's just too cold-hearted. Those icy stares will make everyone bend their knees." She exaggerated.
I almost snorted my coffee. As if she isn't like that. They really are compatible. A shiver run through my spine as I felt the hair on my arm stood up. I've never thought I'll have a goosebumps because of my friend.
"Sir Killian is worse. He is the complete opposite of the CEO. His secretaries just give up with him. He, himself gave up the idea of having a secretary when the last one fled." She whispered as if someone could hear us.
It's either he scared them for them to just flee or he dazzled them to the point where it interfered with their work. I am betting on the dazzled.
I wonder which of my theories is correct.
"He must be super scary for his secretaries to leave," I whispered and shivered.
Sir Killian and Ms. Alderei is so far the scariest person that I've seen in the company. And I am just minutes in!With their cold blank eyes and their unnatural beauty, though all of them are beautiful. The two of them emit the most intimidating aura I've ever felt. I felt thankful that Mr. Celetino is always smiling, though I think he will be far scarier than the two if he tried to.
"Mr. Willard told me to not look at Sir Killian too much. He said he was too dazzling." I whispered.
"He also told me that!"Megan whispered and squealed excitedly, her eyes big and shining.
Emotions on Megan? Count me in.
"So maybe he doesn't scare them. Maybe, he dazzled them and they tried to seduce him." She squealed, her eyes shining like he just figured out how to solve global warming.
I, too, squealed and bounced on my sit. It was like we are forming our theories in our favorite drama and Sir Killian is the main character.
"But if those women did seduce him why didn't they hire a male secretary?" I asked.
"They did and it did not work. Oh my! That's why they specifically looked for males when the last woman was fired!" Megan said in realization.
My eyes went big and my mouth gaped. Was he really that seducing to have straight males bend for him? I put my palm on my mouth to keep myself from screaming.
If I was a male and Sir Killian is my boss I guess I wouldn't be able to help it myself. The man was drop-dead gorgeous! He looks like he was tossed in here from the heavens to outshine everyone!
Before I could open my mouth to respond the door suddenly opened, revealing Ms. Alderei and an unknown man and woman behind her.
He was wearing a plain polo shirt and jeans and the woman beside him wears a plain shirt and jeans. Their outfits made them out of place in a company where everyone wears formal wear.
He looked at us and his stare lingered at Megan before the woman tapped his shoulder which made him snap. He blinked and looked at Megan-I could swear that his eyes darken as he looked at her.
"Your job?" The small woman raised her brows as she stared at his eyes.
"Mrs. Lightfoot is at home and she told us to inform you." The man said with a deep rough voice as he look at Ms. Alderei.
"I'm looking for it." Ms. Alderei said in an irritated voice.
Megan and I froze in our seats as we watched the scene unfold before us. Ms. Alderei rummaging through her cabinets, the man flicking his gaze on Megan occasionally, and the small woman glaring at the wall and occasionally glaring at us.
"Ms. Summers and Ms. Loera please assist Mr. Celestino as he has much more visitors." Ms. Alderei said as she holds an old-looking paper.
I hesitated to walk out of the room but Megan was already dragging me out.
