Chapter forty two

Marcus hadn't been at school for three days, and though Alina kept in touch with Dana, she didn't ask her about Marcus. Dana didn't mention him either, only reminding Alina about the surprise visitors she wanted her to meet.

So, it surprised Alina to come to school on the fourth day and see Marcus chatting with his friends in front of the school bus with his camp bag. It was Friday, and the whole class was going on a camp trip. She thought Marcus wouldn't make it since she assumed he might be feeling unwell. But here he was in front of her, acting as if nothing had happened.

Determined not to cave, Alina ignored him. He hadn't called her once since they last spoke. She had thought it was because he was still unwell, but seeing how energetic he was made her begin to think otherwise.

"Alina!" someone called out. She turned and saw Evan behind her with his camp bag.

"Evan, what are you doing here? I thought you hated camp trips."
