Michael's words did not convince the young man who was grabbing the watermelon.
Instead, the man sneered and said arrogantly, "You said you were here first, so you were here first? I could say I saw the watermelon first! Boss, ring it up!"
"That's right! Hurry up, Irene has been thirsty for a long time!" His companions chimed in.
However, they didn't notice that the girl they called "Irene" was staring at Michael with shock in her eyes.
Michael didn't care if anyone was staring at him. He calmly said to the vendor, "You should have seen that I was here first."
The vendor made a slicing motion, suggesting, "How about splitting it, half for each of you?"
"No!" the young man quickly refused. "There are more of us; half won't be enough. We want the whole thing, but..." He glanced at Michael, who was dressed simply and lacked any obvious signs of wealth, with contempt in his eyes. "If you're willing to ask nicely, I might give you a piece."
