Quit the job

The next morning was a rough one for Arlo, as he struggled to leave the house for an interview, but Peggy refused. "The only place I will allow you to go is back to your job. If not, I will invite my family over." She threatened, knowing that Arlo would always accept anything she said at the mention of her family. But this time, it took a different turn against Peggy.

Arlo majestically took two steps closer to Peggy, who was fuming like a wounded lion. "Your family? The ones that don't care about you? The ones that blame your husband for losing your child? The ones that don't care if you exist or not? I expected you to be ashamed to call them family, because it's clear that none of them wants anything good for you," Arlo said, turning to move back before he remembered something and swiftly turning. "You know…" his hands demonstrated as he moved forward. "Something in me tells me that this job was from your family. And they did that just to ridicule you, because they don't ridicule me. These people don't love you; all these are fake pretences." He said that and turned to leave. Peggy muted, standing like someone who lost her memory and can't even remember her name.

She immediately realized herself and shouted at Arlo, "Do you have a family?" She asked, Arlo turned, and she continued. "You are saying all these things because you don't know what family is all about. You have never experienced someone caring about you. I shouldn't have gotten into this situation called marriage if only I had listened to my family." Peggy ranted, causing Arlo to feel down.

Arlo, who was already at the door, smirked and turned to leave. The sight behind him took his breath away for a second. "What on Earth are you doing in my house?" Arlo asked with a harsh tone, causing Peggy to rush out of the house.

Brianna stood there, her red gown explaining wealth. Her perfume took over every other scent around the scene. "You are married?" Brianna shockingly asked. The man she truly loves and fought for is married. Disappointment was written all over her face. She started regretting what she had done because of a married man.

"Yeah! I am married. Would that send a proper signal to your brain? You have to leave now." Arlo commands angrily.

Tears dropped from Peggy's eyes, unsure of what to do next or say. "You are married, and at the same time doing such a job?" Brianna confusingly demanded to know.

Arlo smiled. "The last time I checked, you didn't own my life. Therefore, you don't have any right to know what happens in my life. It's either you accept it or not; I don't care. Take your leave, Mrs. Wealth." Arlo commanded before Peggy interrupted the conversation because she wanted to know who Brianna was.

"Leave? She is one of your numerous girlfriends, right? I know that's all you know how to do perfectly. You have no shame." Peggy accused Arlo, but nobody replied to her. When Arlo saw that it could cause problems between them if the right information was not passed, he decided to let Peggy know who Brianna is.

"Well, this is Brianna. The woman I was working with." Arlo stated that Peggy's eyes widened in surprise.

"Was working with? No, my darling husband, you are still working for her. You don't have a choice," she said, walking to Brianna. "I am very sorry for the way he spoke to you. He might be silly sometimes," she apologized to Brianna.

Brianna was so surprised and, at the same time, confused about what was unfolding right before her. "Are you aware of what your husband does?" Brianna shockingly asked. She held onto her purse as she stood beside her car.

"Yeah! That's the only job he can do to make a reasonable amount of money to take care of me." Peggy stupidly answered. Brianna looked at her from head to toe; she looked disgusting to her.

"Why are you then angry that he might cheat on you? Well, that's your business. I am here to tell you that your services are no longer needed." Brianna said to Arlo, but he didn't care because he had already quit before then.

Peggy became restless, trying to plead with Brianna. "No ma! He is ready to work. Please forgive him and give him the last chance." Peggy pleaded with Brianna's deaf ears.

"He has other clients," Brianna said as she entered her car.

As she entered the car, she brought out her phone and dialed a number. "Please abort the mission. It isn't worth it." She said, but was surprised to get a shocking reply.

"Abort? She is already dead." The deep, manly voice said.

Brianna was devastated; she had already ordered some men to cause an accident for Rosalind. Who died at the spot? Her conscience was against what she just did. She wished to change the hands of time, but it was too late.

Arlo and Peggy stood there, waiting for Brianna to move her car, not knowing she was seriously in tears. They couldn't see through the glass because of the tinting. Arlo's phone beeped; he looked at it. It's a message from Brianna: "I want to see you at my place. Not for the job, but a meaningful conversation."

Brianna's car started moving, and Peggy rushed to push Arlo. "Stop her from leaving. You are so weak and useless to me." Peggy shouted, hitting Arlo on the shoulder. He ignored her and went inside to get ready because he wanted to meet with Tatiana to end the deal.

As he was about to pick up his phone, the news popped up: "A ghastly motor accident took the life of a wealthy single lady." He was shocked, his eyes stocked on Rosalind's photo on her phone. The moment seemed unrealistic; he took it as a rumor. He moved to confirm the news himself.

Peggy blocked him: "You are going nowhere. Only if you kill me here. My family is on their way." She said that Arlo stared at her from head to toe.

"Everything I am doing, I am doing it for you. Everything I am going through is all because of you. I will risk my life this last time to please you again." Arlo said, and Peggy sighed.

"You ain't doing anything for me; you are building your future. If there is no me today, won't you work to be a better person? Or you derive joy from poverty. You must take good care of me while I am still with you, because it's your job." Peggy said, but Arlo wasn't surprised, though Peggy's statement was beginning to sound weird.

"I am going back to Brianna. She sent it for me," Arlo said.

Peggy's face lightened up; she hugged Arlo and kissed him.
