"Maybe not directly, but your action today has hurt me, Aunt. You should have at least tried to plead with Grace to give my proposal some thought," Trent accused.

"Instead, you directly concluded that she doesn't want me. Do you want me to just accept that in good faith? Shouldn't you help me to find happiness like you promised my mother on her deathbed?"

Rose's heart constricted in pain, This is exactly what she had feared all along.

"You misunderstood, son, that's not how it is..." Rose began reaching out to Trent, but he avoided her hand.

He straightened his suit jacket with forced composure. "There's no need to explain, aunt. I see how it is, perfectly," he said coldly. 

With that, he cast a lingering glance at Grace, turned on his heel and strode out of the room, leaving behind a guilt stricken Rose who couldn't believe what had just happened.

Jace sneered as he saw through Trent's action. "Shameless sneak."
