After the silhouettes of Bruce, Lex, and Clark had left the hollow space, Shiller scanned the underground void ignoring the half pound miniature cameras Bruce had left behind, ready to get to work.
Though termed an experiment, what he did was straightforward. Shiller turned into a gray mist and hovered over the monster's egg. As soon as the gray mist made contact with the egg, it vanished on the spot.
Immediately, Shiller focused his attention on a ring in his hand. Within seconds, he found himself on Sky Island, a familiar space within the gray mist. Turning his head, he saw the massive monster egg just beside him.
Shiller circled around the egg and found that, although the heartbeat inside had accelerated slightly, it remained steady without any signs of hatching.
Given these circumstances, Shiller decided to leave the egg here and deal with external matters first.
After returning underground to the manor, the gray mist let out a joyful "Yay!" and then began to feast voraciously.
Gray mist spread out, covering the whole hollow space. The crunching sounds were constant, and in just a few minutes, all of the kryptonite in the apparatus had been consumed.
"Burp...so full!" the gray mist let out a satisfied sigh, and then fell silent, focusing on digestion.
Looking at the empty underground hollow, Shiller took a step to leave and suddenly muttered under his breath as if he just remembered something. "Ah yes, didn't Lex mention something about me leaving some things here from before?"
"Alright, let's see. Where could they be hidden?"
He glanced over the hollow and then decisively walked away from this place.
Firstly, because there weren't any conceivable hiding spots in this hollow. Secondly, if the previous Shiller was a regular person, the radiation here would kill him instantly, so it's unlikely he had time to hide anything.
Shiller left, strolling through the hallways not finding anything out of the ordinary and heading back to the cellar they had first descended into.
In the hallways between the cellar and the mansion, Shiller conducted a thorough inspection several times. Finally, he unscrewed a lightbulb on the ceiling and discovered a hidden compartment. He reached out and felt a metal item inside.
After pulling the item out, Shiller found it to be a small safe - so small it could even be held in his arms. Recalling Lex's previous description, Shiller guessed that it might contain something related to the Dionysus Factor.
So, he created a wisp of gray mist, ready to unlock the safe.
On the silver-grounded courtyard, the cellar door opened with a "pop". The door remained open for a while, yet no one emerged from inside.
A few minutes later, Bruce and Lex crawled out from the cellar door one after the other. Both scanned their surroundings with a sense of confusion, seemingly puzzled at finding no enemies.
"It seems Clark took care of all of them," Lex said, observing the traces on the snowy ground around them.
"Impossible, Clark doesn't kill."
Lex snorted disdainfully, "How long have you known him? Your tone implies you've known him for years, but it's not even been a single day. How do you know that he…"
"Hey, guys, I'm back!"
Just then, Clark descended from the sky, landing gently on the ground with his hands on his hips. Bruce frowned and asked, "Where have you been?"
Lex noticed that Clark was freezing, with snowflakes over his hair and eyebrows, making him look as if he'd been standing in the snow for a long while.
"I got rid of those annoying agents."
"Got rid of them? Where did you send them?" Lex asked, somewhat confused. "Did you actually kill them?"
"Of course not, I wouldn't do something so cruel. I just sent them home."
"So, you did kill them?"
Clark waved his hands helplessly, denying it.
"No, they claimed to be from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, right? I tied them all together and flew them to the main base of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to drop them off."
"I am so fast none of the agents even saw me. They should be thanking me. Otherwise, in such snowy weather, how would they rush back?"
Bruce and Lex looked at each other, stunned. Bruce hesitantly said, "Have you considered they might not actually be from the Federal Bureau of Investigation?"
"They claimed to be FBI, and even if they're not, the Federal Bureau of Investigation would probably send them home anyway."
"The Federal Bureau of Investigation might send them 'home', but not in the way you think."
Bruce stared at Lex, who was shivering slightly in the snow, and a panting Clark who had just finished his exercise. "Both of you should go back inside."
With that, he turned and walked forward, bashing through the thick snow, crossing the courtyard and heading back inside the banquet hall.
The banquet hall was still in complete disarray. Tablecloths lying on the ground with candlesticks and utensils scattered everywhere. Bruce walked past all the debris and headed straight inside. He had unfinished matters with Benjamin.
He speculated that Benjamin might be observing the courtyard silently from a higher floor. It could be either the manor's main building or the adjacent tower. Bruce decided to inspect the main building first, which was closer.
