Chapter 41: Eve of Halloween and the Buffalo Curse

While Alaric was diligently studying Ancient Runes to make his own flying broom, news arrived from Gryffindor: Harry Potter got a Nimbus 2000 flying broomstick.

This broomstick was the latest product from the renowned broomstick company in Europe, Nimbus Racing Broom Company, representing the pinnacle of flying broomstick technology.

Currently, the mainstream broomsticks used by the Quidditch teams of the four houses at Hogwarts were the old-style Cleansweep Five, with only a few individuals able to use the Clean Sweep Six. However, even the Cleansweep Six couldn't match the performance of the Nimbus 2000.

Upon hearing this news, Roger came to talk to Alaric once, suggesting crowdfunding within the house to buy a Nimbus 2000 for him. Still, Alaric declined.

"Quidditch isn't just a sport that relies solely on broomstick performance," Alaric said disdainfully. "Even if you give me a Comet 260, I can defeat any opponent."

While he said that, in reality, he just thought buying a Nimbus 2000 was too wasteful. He would finish making his own broomstick within this semester, and the Nimbus 2000 he bought now would just gather dust later.

...

Unbeknownst to Alaric, he had already spent two months at Hogwarts.

Two months of studying and living in the castle, getting along with friends—especially Hermione, Cho Chang, and Penelope—made him increasingly regard Hogwarts as a home.

In the first ten years of this life, although life in the Wool's Orphanage was not bad, the emptiness of being disconnected from his past life and the loneliness of living among young children made him always feel out of place in this world.

It wasn't until that day when he met Dumbledore, learned about the truth of the world, and then came to Hogwarts.

This world, along with familiar faces like Hermione, Harry, and Cho Chang, finally made him feel a greater passion for life and a subtle warmth.

Although deep down, he still sometimes thought them like NPCs, but some had truly entered his heart, making him take them seriously. So, his behavior was changing rapidly.

For the teachers at Hogwarts, having a student like Alaric was both fortunate and painful.

In any subject, he could grasp the content of the class in advance.

In fact, Alaric's progress in his studies had already reached the level of a third-year student.

This made the teachers feel somewhat ashamed—except for Professor Snape—because they felt they couldn't teach Alaric anything; all the knowledge he possessed was self-learned.

Having already mastered the first-year curriculum, all the assignments were a piece of cake for him.

On the evening of the day when assignments were given, Alaric would provide the answers, which were often copied by his three roommates and then spread throughout Hogwarts the next day.

This led to a situation where, for quite some time, Hogwarts professors faced a large pile of highly similar assignments every week, with completely correct answers.

However, this joyful plagiarism didn't last long. After clarifying the situation from some Slytherins who disliked Alaric, starting with Professor Snape, all the professors exempted Alaric from doing assignments.

This special treatment caused wailing among the first-year students at Hogwarts—not out of jealousy, but because they could no longer get such perfect reference answers.

Of course, many stories happened to Alaric in these two months. In summary, unknowingly, the first holiday of Hogwarts, Halloween, was approaching.

On the eve of Halloween, when Alaric woke up early, he could smell the sweet and enticing aroma of roasted pumpkin wafting through the corridors.

This morning, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor were scheduled to have Charms class with Professor Flitwick.

In this class, Professor Flitwick announced that he believed they could start making objects fly.

Since they saw Professor Flitwick controlling Neville's warty toad to fly around the classroom in the previous lessons, students had been eagerly looking forward to trying this spell.

Professor Flitwick divided the entire class into pairs to begin practicing.

As usual, Alaric was self-studying, currently reading "Magical Symbols Collection."

Although he hadn't finished "Advanced Runic Translation," basic books like "Magical Symbols Collection," "Rune Dictionary," and "Magical Phonetic Chart" no longer posed any difficulty for him.

As for Hermione, being another recognized academic genius, she, as usual, was assigned to practice alone. In reality, the professors knew that her so-called individual practice was practicing with Alaric.

"All right, don't forget the subtle wrist movements we've been practicing!" Professor Flitwick stood on his pile of books as usual, shouting in his high-pitched voice.

"A flick and a swish, remember, a flick and a swish. And saying the magic words properly is very important, too — never forget Wizard Baruffio, who said 's' instead of 'f' and found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest."

Laughter erupted from the students, filling the classroom with a joyful atmosphere.

Suddenly, with a "bang," a massive buffalo appeared out of thin air in the classroom, startling the young wizards. Everyone scattered, and then gathered around, watching this giant creature.
