Smart was visibly aghast by the way his name was called out loud by some strange voices coming from inside the house. He tilted his head sideways to look into the house through the slightly opened door but Martha proactively closed the door behind her.
"Ma'am, is there something wrong?" Smart asked, wondering what Brian must have said to his family about him.
"There is nothing wrong, Mr smart."
Martha could feel the hair at the back of her neck standing. Nonetheless, She stood her ground, towering above him and assessing him with her X-ray vision.
Nothing about the young man standing before her looked frightening at all. But she believed that the wolves always came after their prey in sheep's clothing. So, she kept her guards up, threading carefully, and asking only the necessary questions.
"I was hoping you could tell me where Brian is?" Martha asked.
"Where Brian is?! Isn't he inside the house?" Smart queried in a perplexed tone.
