Chapter 148

Wally and Dio played until three in the morning, and Wally went to his room to sleep.

Meanwhile, Dio spent the rest of the time reading a good old book about Incan curses.

After so many years, he finally got used to not needing to sleep.

It wasn't easy, and the habit of sleeping took a while to stop.

Now, Dio no longer had the absurd urge to sleep, and even he was not tired.

This was made a lot easier by setting tasks for these hours when almost no one was awake.

The last time Dio slept was after a mission where he worked almost five days rescuing earthquake victims.

That was four months ago.

So, Dio leisurely read his book while making mental notes about what could be useful or not.

In fact, only ten percent of the book is useful to him because Incan rituals always seem to involve human sacrifice or the heart of a virgin.

"Warning, unknown aircraft are approaching!"

The Tower's AI voice echoed throughout.

Dio looked at the clock and saw that it was already seven in the morning. He jumped out of bed and put on his armor and new cloak.

He opened the door and jumped from the hallway to the common area below.

Then he saw Wally in his suit while looking at the TV, which displayed a radar image with a small blue dot approaching the Tower.

"Information?"

Dio asked him.

"Wait, it's coming into the camera's range."

Wally said this and grabbed the TV remote.

"What's happening?"

Raven was now wearing her suit as she came out from behind a shadow on the floor.

She had changed her suit to a complete purple ensemble covering her whole body, with boots and gloves of the same color.

The unique feature was the crow feathers on her shoulders, arranged like shoulder pads, and finally, a hood.

"Relax, it's an ally."

Before Dio could respond, Wally drew attention to the TV.

The camera managed to capture the image of the familiar jet.

"It's an A.R.G.U.S. ship. This is strange; Steve never came in person."

"Maybe they have an important mission for us."

Kid Flash suggested it excitedly.

They have worked on some cases together with A.R.G.U.S.

They are almost always there after one of their fights on American soil because they are in charge of anything abnormal involving superheroes and villains.

"Let's find out what it is when we go up there."

Raven said, and Kid Flash ran towards the stairs excitedly.

"I'll deactivate the defenses before we go."

Dio told Raven.

Unlike Kid Flash, Raven and Dio walk calmly to the elevator. When they arrive, the aircraft has already landed, and its side is open.

There are two A.R.G.U.S. soldiers in armor with rifles who come out first and position themselves on the sides of the jet's entrance.

Then, a woman wearing a complete military uniform stepped out and walked towards them.

"I'm Major Nicholson. I'm here to give you a mission!"

These were her first words.

...

They all went to one of the lower floors of the Tower, where the meeting room is located.

They are sitting while the two soldiers stand at attention on either side of the wall, where Major Nicholson is facing a screen used for presentations.

"As I said before, I have a mission for you, Titans."

Nicholson said.

Dio would use a word that was as stiff as a stone to describe this major.

She is also quite arrogant about her title.

The woman is used to giving orders and seeing them carried out, as she is a Major and the army has a clear hierarchy.

This became evident in the way she mentioned having a mission for them.

It was clear from the way she spoke and the tone of her voice that there was no other choice but to accept.

Unfortunately, it is not that easy for her.

"We want your team to locate and apprehend a fugitive meta-human. She is a key player in a mission of great importance to us.

Nicholson continued.

On the screen, a photo of an ID card appeared.

The target meta-human was just a teenage girl with Asian features, white hair, and one blue eye.

The other was covered by a pirate-style eye patch.

"This is Rose Wilson, your target."

Kid Flash raised his hand as high as he could like a kid in class.

"Yes?"

Nicholson asked.

"What did she do?"

Kid Flash asked and lowered his hand.

"We tried to recruit Miss Rose Wilson, but that didn't go very well, and she is now wanted for attacking our agents."

Nicholson informed.

The screen changed once again to scenes from a low-resolution video camera.

The location seemed to be a simple diner. Rose was dressed as a waitress and surrounded by four men in suits.

One of the men tried to grab Rose's shoulder, and she stabbed his shoulder with a small hidden knife and brought him down in less than a second.

Before he hit the ground, she hit the other three with perfect strikes, moving faster than a normal person but not faster than a superhuman.

After that, she walked out the door calmly while leaving four of them bleeding on the ground and still moving.

"Ohh, the girl is as tough as Robin."

Kid commented.

"Rose Wilson has enhanced agility, reflexes, enhanced stamina, and regeneration capable of healing her from almost all physical damage. As you can see, she has been trained very well.

Nicholson continued her briefing.

"It seems to me that you disturbed her for no reason."

Raven spoke and silenced herself immediately.

Nicholson tightened her expression even more.

"Why us? I understand she is skilled, but with the large number of A.R.G.U.S. soldiers and equipment, the capture would happen in a matter of time."

Dio raised the question that could give me some answers about this setup.

Nicholson forgot one thing and that Rose is actually the daughter of Slade Wilson, Deathstroke.

If Lady Shiva is considered the greatest in the world, Slade is commonly regarded as the greatest and most deadly assassin in the world.

Deathstroke is not someone anyone can mess with without being prepared.

Dio didn't know why they wanted to involve them in this, and if he didn't know his past life, they would fall like ducks into their plan.

"That doesn't matter; this is not your mission. All you have to do is locate her and bring her to us."

Nicholson responded.

"And who gave such an order?"

Dio asked again.

"I am and under the authority of the A.R.G.U.S. Director."

Nicholson was not happy to answer him or respond to his questions.

"Fine, I'll pass all this information to my friends, and we'll decide whether we help you or not."

Dio decided what to do because Raven didn't seem to want to say anything else and Kid wasn't fit to be a leader.

"The mission has been given; all that's left is to obey!"

Nicholson declared with a strong commanding tone while lifting her chin.

"I don't recall enlisting, and I certainly don't remember joining A.R.G.U.S."

Kid added more fuel to the fire.

"So, are you going to act against orders!?"

Nicholson asked.

"I've already said, Major Nicholson, we'll talk among ourselves and then give you an answer."

Dio spoke again with a calm tone.

"I see, so you leave me no choice; I'll have to open an investigation into certain individuals, like Rudy West."

Then Nicholson made a mistake.

"BOOM!!"

Kid stood up and hit the table.

"My dad!"

He shouted.

"There are reasons to believe that your father is involved with dangerous people, and his involvement with them can be investigated."

Nicholson continued and dug her own hole.

"Major Nicholson, it's better if you leave now!"

Dio said to prevent everything from exploding.

Instead of taking advantage of the chance, she looks straight at Dio.

He can tell from the look in her blue eyes that she thinks she is better than him.

"Of course, we should also open an investigation to find out if Vanessa Kapatelis used any illicit means to get her scholarship to college!"

Then Dio's golem sensed his emotions and dissolved while touching the ground and slowly expanding through the room.

"I'll say this one more time..."

Dio began to say it with a cold voice he had never used to speak to anyone.

The darkness of the golem now covered half the room while extinguishing any light in the room.

"Leave now..."

The entire room was dark, and above the soldiers' heads, a red eye emerged.

"Or stay forever!"

Dio stood up from the chair within his armor.

"Wait..."

Nicholson started to speak but suddenly realized that her facade had crumbled and fear had taken over.

Dio didn't take pleasure in making others feel fear since this woman was an arrogant idiot, and talking to her was pointless.

So, he retrieved his golem, and then he requested.

"Raven, get them out of my sight."

Raven created three portals on the ground, and the three of them fell into the portal.

"That was intense, Batman-level intense."

Kid gave him a thumbs up.

"She knew about your families; whatever they know, they know who you are."

Raven ruined Kid's enthusiasm with this revelation.

"I'm not surprised by that. What infuriated me was her threat."

The government is powerful, and obtaining secret information about heroes is clearly something they want.

"What are we going to do now?"

Raven asked and stood up.

"You two could call the others back. In the meantime, I'll make a call and maybe get some information."

Raven nodded and quickly exited through the door.

It must be uncomfortable for her to be close to him right now with her powers.

"I'm going to talk to my dad. I'm a little worried now."

Wally said that and ran out as well, leaving Dio alone.

Dio took a few minutes for himself to calm down a bit.

An organization he thought was an ally threatened his family for the first time since he became a hero.

It's not a good feeling.

In fact, Dio was almost flying into that damn jet and bringing it down from the sky.

They're lucky he was raised and trained to be better than that.

But he promised that the lesson, message, and warning would be delivered in the end.
