Chapter 2: The Cute Little Treasure who Jumped into Bed_1

Suzanne Trent came back to her senses and put the cold water-washed towel on the man's head, then lowered her gaze to look at his face.

In the past two days, she couldn't find any identification on him, and he didn't have a phone either. It was probably lost when he fell. Though his face had bruises and abrasions, he was still an exceptionally good-looking man.

After looking at the man's face for a while, Suzanne turned her head and glanced at Abigail on the bedside, her mind inexplicably zoning out for a moment before returning her gaze to the man's face.

Probably an illusion.

She pushed aside some of the man's dark hair that was soaked by the towel on his forehead and continued staring intently at his face.

A blurry scene from about five years ago suddenly flashed in her mind...

The phone on the wall cabinet suddenly rang loudly. Suzanne's hand, placed close to the man's forehead, trembled as she hurried to answer the call.

Olivia's voice came through the phone, filled with irritation: "Why did you leave the cast party so early last Sunday night? The investor had just started having a good impression of you because of your performance in the previous play! How could you just leave?"

Suzanne glanced at Abigail still lying on the bedside, grabbed her phone, and walked away before replying: "I had to pick up Lily that night, and the nanny we hired had gone home. There was no one else to pick her up..."

"Stop using Lily as an excuse! I know you're deliberately avoiding them. Several of the investors are big shots in the industry, and many people would kill for a chance to play the second female lead in such a large-scale production. You had just landed a collaboration, and then you leave the banquet so abruptly. Are you trying to kill me out of anger?"

Suzanne: "I explained the urgency before leaving..."

"I know you're wary of those people taking advantage of you, but there are many newcomers in the industry now who are not even 20 years old, young, pretty, and sweet-talking. You, on the other hand, are already 24! If you continue to neglect the investors, you will really be phased out by the industry. What's the point of me hiding the fact that you have a daughter for so many years? Can't you save me some worries? Even if you don't want to socialize with the investors, at least be more tactful!"

She was well aware that Olivia was looking out for her, so Suzanne softened her tone: "I think my conduct before I left that night was fairly tactful and not offensive. The investors were too drunk to care about me at the time. It's been two days already, and now you're suddenly so angry?"

"Haven't you seen the news these past two days?"

"No."

"The CEO of the York-King Group has gone missing, possibly murdered. It's estimated that this high-profile domestic financial giant will undergo a complete shake-up. In the meantime, other female artists who've previously had ambiguous relationships with the King Clan's cousin companies and relatives are now using the York-King Group's hot topic to gain attention. Just yesterday, Kelin took advantage of this wave of heat to snag the role of leading actress in "Blazing Cloud Summit" and even made headlines on Twitter. Kelin has been competing with you for resources since you first entered the industry, and now she's doing better than ever. I wish I could transfer her ability to charm men into your head!"

Suzanne uttered a nonchalant hum before getting to the point: "So, did I offend the investors or not?"

Olivia's tone faltered and she cleared her throat: "No."

Another sentence came quickly after: "But you can't continue acting like this!"

"I understand."

After ending the call, Suzanne turned around to head back to Abigail's side when Olivia sent her a message: [Can't you come to the company today? We need to discuss costume ideas and details to be changed with the styling team for the new play.]

Suzanne: [How about tomorrow? I have a new rabbit at home, injured all over. I have to take care of it.]

Olivia: [Forget acting, you should become a veterinarian.]

Suzanne put her phone aside and walked towards the door, taking a look at the "new rabbit" who was still in a coma due to severe injuries and high fever on the bed.

If this man were to die in her home, she would likely make the headlines as Olivia wished.

However, the content would undoubtedly be #C-list actress Suzanne Trent's home harbors unidentified male corpse#.

-

For three whole days, the man on the bed remained in a deep coma. It wasn't until the evening of the third day that he finally woke up.

Everything in front of him was very unfamiliar - the snow-white walls, the four-pane window typical of an old residence, a plain single bed, and a white stuffed animal, a teddy bear, placed beside it.

Mason King's eyes held their usual coldness, and the room's temperature seemed to drop suddenly in that instant.

He survived by a whisker and didn't know to whom he had asked for help at the time but never expected to wake up in such a place.

"Wow! Uncle, you're awake!"

A sweet, glutinous voice suddenly rang a few meters away from the bedside.

Abigail rushed over, her adorable little body struggling to climb onto the bed before pouncing next to Mason: "Do you still feel pain?"

The temperature in the room, which was nearly reaching freezing point, was immediately broken by the sudden arrival of the cute little girl.

Mason's expression momentarily stalled as he looked at the girl who squeezed her way over to him, then turned to her shining, smiling eyes.

His hand hanging by his side involuntarily moved, and the little girl quickly reached out with her soft, white hand, pressing on his wrist: "Mommy said that you can't move when you're having an injection, or else your hand will swell up really big!"
