"Alex, can't you come with me?" Eric asked hopefully, looking at his companion who had shared so much hardship with him.
"No, I have to search for my family, even though they may have perished in the flames of war," Alex replied casually. He wasn't even sure if he had any living relatives left. His real purpose was to find Charles Xavier in the United States and pluck out one of his hairs.
"But our abilities are exactly the same. Wouldn't it be better if you stayed with us?" Eric didn't want to lose his newfound companion, the only one who understood what he was going through.
"Eric, you've experienced the pain of losing your family. I believe Alex is going through the same anguish right now. If fate allows, you will meet again. Listen to your mother," Eric's mother crouched down and spoke gently.
"Goodbye, Alex. Don't forget about me!" Eric hugged Alex and said his farewells.
"No, we'll meet again in the future, I promise!" Alex smiled and waved to the two of them as he controlled the metal to fly away.
After all, this Eric was destined to become Magneto. How could they not cross paths with Marvel's most powerful mutant in the future?
"It seems that genetic-derived abilities are like a natural extension of the body, instinctual and effortless. Using this power only consumes physical energy."
Abilities that weren't bound by the "law of conservation of energy" were incredibly convenient.
During his continuous flight, Alex estimated that he had flown out of Europe and was possibly in China or Soviet territory.
After some contemplation, Alex decided to head to the United States during World War II. This might be an opportunity to meet Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Moreover, he might be able to obtain the super-soldier serum, which would enhance his physical abilities. After all, he still had the physique of a ten-year-old.
After flying for an unknown amount of time, Alex landed in a small town. He looked around at the English signs, hoping that the pound was still valid currency. Otherwise, he'd have to resort to charity once more. Charity couldn't save a starving teenager.
Luckily, the pound was still usable, so Alex found a hotel to stay in.
"Energy Absorption and Release Ability, analysis complete. Do you wish to strengthen it?" The system's voice sounded in Alex's ear.
"Strengthen it!" Alex was impatient. Sebastian's "Energy Absorption and Release" Ability was highly valuable, providing Alex with the ability to withstand bullets and missiles.
"Strengthening complete. Would you like to integrate it?"
"Integrate it." Alex replied without hesitation.
After a moment of intense pain during the integration process, Alex emerged from the bathtub. His entire body was covered in streaks of blood, and the water had turned blood-red.
Taking a deep breath, Alex stood up and turned off the faucet. The hot water flowing down his body felt cold, and the impact of the water flow was absent. "Kinetic energy absorbed," he muttered.
Alex couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. While he had gained incredible power, it came at a cost.
With a thought, he reversed the water back to its warm state, allowing him to feel the warmth once more. Now, he could control which energy to absorb and which to pass.
