Investigating Butch

Max decided to take Butch for his word for the time being.

It was not unusual for some of his gang members to say such things when they were under suspicion.

Many could say that they would die to prove their loyalty but not everyone was so willing to go through with it.

Even if they proved their loyalty and went through with it to prove their devotion to the gang, it would only serve one purpose.

Nothing could be gained from someone dying like that especially if they were truly loyal.

It would end up being a serious waste of manpower if everyone tried to prove how loyal they were.

Butch was not completely away from being suspected but he would have many opportunities to prove his loyalty.

If he was not a traitor then there would be nothing to be found as more time passed.

Butch never got any reward for everything but he was not too upset about it since he already stated that he was not interested in gaining anything.

Butch would not escape the suspicions of Max but that meant that others would not escape the same treatment too.

Max would never trust anyone completely and he would never suspect one person alone when there could still be many more with problems of their own.

They may not have been traitors but each person had their vices.

There was something that everyone had that could make them take some form of selfish action.

For some, it was just drink or drugs that was the problem while for others it was money.

Some people could not resist the urge to take a cut of the profits for themselves even if there was a risk of getting caught one day.

There were many other reasons why a person could take an action that could be considered a betrayal to the gang and it could not be considered as a direct betrayal.

Some could be overlooked as small matters while others were taken more seriously to the point that they could no longer be forgiven no matter how high up they were or how useful they were to the gang.

Butch returned to Tiffany shortly after the meeting with Max as he began putting her through training once again.

Meanwhile, back in the room Butch left moments ago, Max remained and he was accompanied by his assistant. "Look into Butch. I want to find out everything about him. It does not matter how small or insignificant the information may be."

He may have been the boss of the gang but he had been leaving many matters to others for quite some time.

There were many things that he did not know well enough so he had many things that needed to be known before his doubts could be cleared.

From the information that he did know, Butch had been brought into the gang after being purchased through various illegal contacts and Butch was still quite young at the time.

What stood out most was how well Butch adapted to his new life and how quickly he was able to rise through the ranks.

That suggested that he was either very talented or he had someone helping him.

There were probably other reasons behind it too but the two conclusions he could come up with were usually the most obvious.

The information soon began to come in showing the accomplishments of Butch along with the various struggles he had to go through.

There was a very high rate of being able to overcome various plots and assassination attempts that had been difficult for most to survive.

What stood out most was the track record that Butch kept up.

There always seemed to be something that Butch got involved in that ended up successful.

There were times when he would appear to warn others about a plot to target them and earn their trust while other similar situations where Butch acted to secure a mission that was bound to fail.

That proved that Butch was highly capable and resourceful enough to prevent such things but it created something to doubt too.

Max couldn't help but doubt such a sudden rise of someone in the gang even if they were truly loyal like they said.

Such a track record suggested that Butch was being helped by someone no matter how capable he was.

It was very difficult to keep up such a track record and to keep coming up with such a performance alone without the assistance of others.

The only exceptions were people who were truly exceptional and had a whole lot of luck too.

Max couldn't help but become curious about Butch after investigating him more closely.

His doubts were not cleared but he was quite interested in finding out who his helper was.

What he wanted to know most was if the helper had good intentions toward the gang or if they were going to become a problem.

If it was going to be a problem then it needed to be investigated further before such a person or people did become a problem that could cause a lot of damage.

What Max did manage to uncover was that there had been someone new in the life of Butch and that they had been staying with Butch for some time.

It became quite clear that such a person had protection assigned to them when Butch was away so technically the gang's resources were being used in such a way to protect that person.

It was a fault that had been found but it was also something that could be considered as a weakness to the eyes of many others.

He soon found out that the person staying with Butch was named Tiffany but there was very little information that could be found on her.

There seemed to be a brother and sister type of relationship between them which showed nothing too suspicious but it was still something that looked a little sudden and odd to Max.

The timing of her arrival was a little too convenient and her cover did too while the difficulty of finding anything on her before her arrival had brought up more questions to be answered.

She was still viewed as a potential weakness for Butch who could get in the way of his rise through the ranks in the gang but there were some thoughts about her arrival being almost too coincidental that it was suspicious.

Despite the suspicion Max had toward the arrival of Tiffany, he was more curious than anything.

She was not too old as far as he heard so he did not think of her as being a threat but he still wanted to know more. "Continue to update me on them both. As for the others.. keep digging into their private matters."
