Letter from Wang Qinyuan

The life of a student is always like this. For those with life experience, student life is like heaven. There are no worries, just playing and having fun. However, for children who have not experienced the world, it feels like time passes slowly. The world is like a walled city, with those outside wanting to enter, and those inside wanting to leave. It has been a long time since I have felt relaxed and carefree like I do now. Going to class every day, chatting and laughing with classmates, feels really good and makes me feel alive. Speaking of which, I have to mention Xu Qin. After a New Year's holiday, she has changed a bit, the biggest change being that she has clearly grown taller. You see, she used to look like a well-developed little girl, and this kind of person usually doesn't grow too tall. But she is different, it seems like she is still growing taller. Once a girl grows taller, and her overall weight doesn't increase much, she looks slender and tall, and her appearance suddenly becomes different. She reminds me of Wang Qinyuan. Additionally, Xu Qin's temper has obviously become bigger than before. I used to be able to joke with her freely, but now I can't. If I make a few jokes, she either hits me with a book or punches me in the head with a little pink fist. My head is almost numb from this, and it makes me feel helpless. I asked her why she was so angry with me and if she found a new boyfriend during the New Year. She glared at me for a long time, and finally took a letter out of her pocket and said, "This is from Xiaoyuan, and there are tear stains on it, which shows how sad she is. Tell me honestly, what did you do bad during the New Year? She told me in the letter that you seemed to have gone to her house to find her." So it turned out to be because of Wang Qinyuan. No wonder this girl suddenly became so temperamental towards me. She was just protecting her best friend. However, her anger wasn't directed towards the right person. I didn't do anything bad to Wang Qinyuan. To be precise, she hurt my feelings, and I was even more upset. Who can I talk to? "Did you peek at her letter?" I took the envelope and looked at it. There were indeed some water marks on it, but I didn't know if they were tear stains. Xu Qin must have read something in the letter from Wang Qinyuan. I didn't expect Wang Qinyuan to write to me. I really don't know what she wants to say to me. Honestly, I don't have any thoughts about her right now, so deep down I have a bit of resistance towards this letter. I didn't want to receive it, but I was afraid that Xu Qin would be even more upset with me. So in the end, I reluctantly accepted the letter. "I'm not interested in reading your letter," Xu Qin glared at me and walked away. When I saw her leave, I found a secluded place and carefully opened the letter.

You won't know until you read it. Once you do, your heart will skip a beat. Wang Qinyuan actually wrote to me in the letter, talking about many intimate things such as her parents' strict discipline towards her and how she struggled with adapting to the unfamiliar environment when she first arrived at school in the county and couldn't keep up with her studies.

To be honest, what she said made me feel both warm-hearted and sympathetic towards her.

However, these are all superficial words after all. The fact that she can confide in me only proves that she still regards me as a friend but does not necessarily mean that she has any deep thoughts or feelings for me.

As I was reading the letter, I felt like something was missing from it. After thinking for a while, I realized that there was no mention of my visit to see her on that day. She also did not apologize for her mother's bad behavior and snobbish attitude which indicates that deep down inside, she actually agrees with what her mother did. This means there is no possibility between us.

So this letter left me feeling uncertain - happy one moment and disappointed the next.

Towards the end of the letter though, I became worried again because Wang Qinyuan mentioned being harassed by many boys lately which made her tired since some of them come from influential families making it difficult for her to refuse their advances outrightly without offending them so instead having to resort to evasive tactics.

This really annoyed me! Although Wang Qinyuan is not my woman per se but rather just a friend; I absolutely cannot allow anyone else use their power or influence against her!

It looks like another troublesome matter has arisen now - I'll have to make time soon enough go back down county side and teach those little bastards who've been harassing Wang Qinyuan a lesson!

That's right! When we go down there Jietou must come along too. That guy is ruthless and will definitely scare those little dogs to death!

After reading the letter, I turned around and headed towards the classroom but before I could enter it, I bumped into Xu Qin who was waiting for me in the corridor. She seemed like she had something to say.

"What's up?" I asked her while looking at her pretty white face.

"What are you going to do?" She blinked her eyes and asked me.

"What do you mean what am I going to do?" I frowned and asked back.

"About Xiaoyuan's situation, what are you going to do about it?" She repeated herself.

"I'm not doing anything about it. There's nothing between us so don't overthink things," I told her.

Upon hearing my words, she couldn't help but ask curiously: "You didn't read her letter?".

I handed her the letter and said, 'So what? It's just a greeting between ordinary friends. If you don't believe me, read it yourself.' She took the letter and quickly scanned it. Then she looked puzzled and followed me, muttering to herself, 'This doesn't make sense. In the letter Yuanyuan sent me, she didn't say anything like this. She even asked me to keep an eye on you for her. Why is the letter she wrote to you so plain?'

'When you write back to her,' I said as I turned around to leave after giving her my message for Yuanyuan, 'tell her that I wish her success in getting into college early and studying abroad for further education. When she becomes successful in the future, don't forget about us poor friends. That's all there is to say. I really have no other intentions towards her.'

As soon as Xu Qin finished speaking, I turned around and walked away but stopped abruptly after taking two steps forward because of my fast pace. Turning my head back towards Xu Qin again, I said: "To be honest with you if we compare Wang Qinyuan with you side by side then actually I think that maybe you are better than Wang Qinyuan."

"What did you say?" Upon hearing my words Xu Qin raised an eyebrow at me angrily while staring at me saying: "I only treat you as a brother! Don't get any weird ideas!"

"Ha ha ha...don't worry; of course I also consider you as a good brother," laughing loudly at Xu Qin's reaction before waving goodbye while walking away from him but unexpectedly bumped into someone due to my fast pace.

"Ouch!"

"Bang bang!"

With a cry of pain accompanied by several books falling onto the ground along with a pleasant fragrance wafting through the air which caught my attention when looking up again only to realize that the person I bumped into was a new young female teacher who had just been transferred here this year. Her name seemed to be Xie Yilin.
