Islinda did not die, rather she almost lost consciousness. Aldric let go at the last minute and she inhaled the breath of life. However, that had felt close to death. A very sweet death. 

It could be said that Aldric was a little bit careless since he almost killed her. But one couldn't exactly blame him, considering Islinda never showed discomfort about breathing. In the past when he tried choking her, she had clawed and punched him as she struggled for air.
