"Is he being serious? How could he just abandon Linus and Laszlo after making use of them?" Ryker complained, his frustration evident in the deep furrow of his brows as he descended the stairs.

Walking beside him, Jace kept his hands casually tucked into his pants pockets. "Why are you surprised? That's who he really is."

Ryker turned sharply, his expression a mix of disbelief and concern. "What? So this wasn't the first time he abandoned someone?"

Jace sniggered, a cynical smirk playing on his lips. "Why are you asking me? You should ask him yourself," he replied cryptically, and he walked ahead of Ryker, leaving behind a trail of uncertainty and unease in the wake of Gerard's decisions.
