Chapter 99 - Her Initials

"Sir another letter has come through." I sighed angrily and stared at the letter, which was at my desk, loathingly.

There was a few reasons why my family kept our whereabouts a secret. It was because people with no good intentions would try to find us and track us down. Usually for propositions. But ever since I turned 18 I have gotten letters from who I presume to be a young girl.

The letters were always scented with some perfume and she wrote to me as if we knew one another. But she never signed her name or address, all I have seen was her initials which were I.P.

Her letters were nonsensical and creepy. She started weaving tales about our married life and when I was going to come down and save her. She left no indicator of her location. The letters written in broken Italian so I had no clue what language she actually spoke. I hated how no matter if I changed addresses or threaten the postal company to just shred the letters, they find their way to me.

Over the last couple of months because of how often I traveled for work I have not seen any letters. I thought it finally ended. "Why bring this to my attention, you are well aware those letters are to be burned."

My secretary flinched at my anger but still remained in the room. "It came with a box this time. We opened it and had it inspected for any drugs or weapons but I think you need to see what was inside."

He left the room and came back with the box. The packaging made it look like a Christmas gift. But inside was no nice treat. It was several photos of Celeste and I. Some of which looked like it was taken from her house.

Instantly I was on high alert. Her letters never scared me because realistically I could defend myself very well. But she could not. It was too easy keeping an eye on her and watching her every movement. She did not go around with any guards watching her.

Now another pair of dangerous eyes watched her. In addition a silk scarf was inside as well. I did not need to hold it up before I caught a whiff of the scent. It was Celestes for sure, one because it was the exact one I sent back when we were first introduced and also because she had a distinct smell. It was sweet and warm.

I grabbed the letter and ripped it open. This time the words were in English. 'A husband should not cheat on his wife. I have been waiting for so long and you finally found me. I was so happy to hear you arrived. I got all dressed up and waited. Yet you play with some other girl? One who is a flower yet to bloom or really more of a pesky weed in our garden of love? What do you see in damaged goods like her? Stay away and come find me. Or else.'

The letter ended the same way. Only her initials. "Damn it. DAMN IT. DAMN IT. DAMN IT ALL." I swept all the items from my desk in a rage. The photos of Celeste scattering onto the floor. I held her scarf to my face and I looked at each photo of her.

She looked vulnerable in the photos. Unaware of the prey watching her and getting ready to strike. I was in a predicament. She was willing to see me in a few days time. I would likely not come back for a long time so if I had any opportunity to sway her back to me, it was then. But I could put her in danger. What if this person learned of our meeting and decides to retaliate against me by hurting Celeste.

I have tried the law back home, I can't do much about the threats until something happens. The same applies here. 'Would she believe me? If I told her would she believe me?' I was not sure. But I needed to act fast.

"I am sorry but you will not be clocking out until I say so. Check every camera, trace this letter, find the postman and have every eye watching my woman increase activity and protection around her. Whoever this freak show is needs to be put down. Immediately."

My men who had rushed in from the commotion bowed and left to follow my orders. My secretary still remained. "Why haven't you left yet? You have orders!" I growled out. But he still stayed.

"Are you planning to try and deal with the girl before meeting Miss D'Angelo?" I nearly snapped a vein in my forehead from my anger. "Obviously why else would I order that." Since when has this man grown soft.

We have worked together since I took over my parents business. He has been my right hand man, my confidant for a long time. He was older than me, at least in his early 50s and was the epitome of what someone would say an old school Italian mobster looked like.

But he usually only stopped me if he knew I would fail. So him doing that now peeved me. "Sir I know you are frustrated but I think we should cancel seeing the young miss until this is resolved. What point is it of going to see her if you kill her in the process."

That broke me. I slammed my fists on the ground and rounded up on him pulling him up by the scruff of his neck. "What makes you think I will kill her? I have been watching her carefully so as not even a single hair falls off her head. Whoever this is must either be close to me to evade me for so long or close to her to not wave any red flags.

I let him go and laughed loudly. "Besides my protection that ugly dog that follows her around is also from a strong family. I can bet he is also keeping an eye on her. As much as he is a parasite for now he stays because it benefits me. Don't make me repeat myself."

The old man got up from the floor and dusted his clothes, unbothered by what had just occurred. "Right away." His words seemed to hold agreement, but his eyes which Dante never saw held rebellion in them.
