Chapter 19: Matt’s Dastardly Scheme

“Before I call them over,” Nick begins, “is there anything you would like to make sure we keep from them? I don’t want to tell them anything you’re comfortable with someone knowing.”

“That’s very considerate of you.” I have to give him credit. While he does keep more secrets than I would like, he’s pretty good at respecting my wishes in other respects. “Don’t tell them about my connection with this place. Make it seem like the only connection we know of is the fact that the killer went after you.”

“Okay.” Nick texts both of his friends to come over. He gets two text alerts right away. “They’ll be right over,” Nick says after glancing at his phone again.

“How quickly?”

“Just a few minutes. All the Springstorms live in this building, remember?”

It’s just a few minutes before the first knock comes. I’m sitting on the couch when Nick opens the door. “Allen,” he says, after opening it.
