"According to your numbers, you will find your topics on the..." Mr. Joel continued with the announcement, but Karina was no longer paying attention.
'What sort of ill luck is this?' She bemoaned internally. If she could, she would cry right now. How was she supposed to work with this person who doesn't take anything about his studies seriously?
'I think my curse is beginning to act up and bring the worse luck my way these past days.' She concluded, pursing her lips as she lifted her eyes to look at her supposed partner.
Only when she locked gazes with him did she realize that he had also been looking at her. A sudden intense urge to look away washed over her, but she didn't give in to it. She held his gaze, despite how intimidated those silver orbs of his made her feel at that moment.
Her eyes narrowed slightly when she noticed the way he was looking at her. Could it be he was also not happy about the pairing? At that thought, her heart became less heavy.
It would be good if he doesn't want to work with her. That would save her from this unpleasant position she was in.
Just as she wanted to look away, she felt a push on her left shoulder which almost made her lose balance if she hadn't reacted quickly. The push wasn't too hard, but it almost looked that way because it came as a surprise.
"I see you've graduated from stealing clothes to stealing numbers. Why did you pick my number?" Sheila's voice echoed, her face darkened as she glowered at Karina who was still recovering from the shock of the push.
Everyone's attention shifted from what they were doing to the pair in front of the class. Mr. Joel just exited the class a few seconds before Sheila approached Karina. It seemed another drama was about to begin, and they were so ready to be entertained.
Nori, who witnesses the push, sprang to her feet but didn't move any further. She knew Karina could take care of herself, but out of habit, she couldn't sit still when someone attacks her.
"And I see you have gone mad. You should have your head checked instead of provoking me. And stop calling me a thief because I won't take it lightly anymore." Karina fired back after regaining balance and recovering from the shock.
"You are a thief. A jacket thief. Now, what are you going to do about—" Sheila's words were instantly cut off when Karina lurched forward and grabbed the front of her shirt.
Sounds of gasps echoed from different directions as the startled students watched the drama unfold.
Karina paid no attention to what was going on around her. Her anger had reached the level where she didn't care anymore.
She pulled Sheila by the shirt as they climbed up the steps until they got to the fifth step where Veron was seated.
Sheila on the other hand was too shocked to react. Karina had taken her by surprise, and before she could snap out of her stunned state, she had already followed Karina to the fifth step and was standing beside Veron's seat.
How the fuck did that just happen? How did she allow this lowlife to drag her all the way from the front of the class to this place?
Just like every other student in the class who had their eyes widened and jaws dropping, Veron and Skye were no less shocked.
But more than shocked, Veron was pleased. Her action stirred something inside of him, something he didn't understand and didn't bother to decipher.
His face, however, remained expressionless, perfectly concealing what was going on inside of him.
When Karina came to stand right in front of him, he knew immediately that she was extremely angry. Her countenance would scare any fainthearted person into submission.
But his heart has already been molded into a solid mass of unbreakable ice, so this was nothing to him.
Setting his eyes on her face, he lifted a brow as he waited for her to say why she came to him. This was the first time he was seeing her face up close in broad daylight, and he had to admit that she was better looking than most human females he had met.
Her brown hair was tied behind her head, her brown eyes looked darker because of how livid she was at that moment, and she was back in her oversized male clothes, a sight he had gotten used to.
A part of him immediately wished to see her in that dress or something similar again, but before he could dwell on it, her voice pulled him back to the present.
"Tell this deranged airhead that I didn't steal your jacket because the next time she calls me a thief, we will both roll in the mud and I will drag you into the mud too."
If the students were only mildly shocked before, now, they were flabbergasted. It was one thing to drag Sheila, but a whole new level to speak to Veron like that.
Veron's brow quirked even higher and his head tilted slightly. The initial fear he noticed in her eyes earlier was gone. Now there was just fierce courage.
"Did she just threaten me?" He asked inside his head.
"Uhmm... Yeah. She just did." Gerrard answered, nodding his head in agreement.
Veron chuckled silently. "Now I want to know how she will achieve that. Perhaps I should let this drag on a little longer."
"Why are you enjoying this?" Gerrard asked.
"What's there not to enjoy? She promised to drag me down into the mud. I've never experienced that before and would like to know what it feels like." Veron answered in a serious tone.
"Stop enjoying this and clear this misunderstanding. Nobody is allowed to bully my mate, especially, not this deranged airhead." Gerrard said, reminding Veron of the name Karina called Sheila.
Another chuckle echoed in his head as he returned his attention to the two girls, who were still bickering and at the brink of grabbing each other's necks.
