Chapter 266: A Deal with the Devil
Oliva POV
Through the door like a shot, nearly forgetting to turn the knob, Luke found Jenny on the floor of the living room mid-sob. The first thing I saw was the blood.
Hope came to meet us as everything went on, scootin’ along like never before along the fine walnut boards.
It was a minute or more before I registered the vase in pieces on the floor. Jenny and I both recognized it as being at least Elizabethan, if not before.
“No, no, no, no,” Jenny repeated as she tried to put the priceless porcelain back together with cut fingers.
There were few things in the world Jenny could be said to truly love, but a fine piece of art was one of them.
She was still wailing when Luke managed to gently coax her away from the shattered glass, Ellis scooping up Hope in no time flat, as I stood by useless and paralyzed.
It wasn’t the loss of an antique piece that plagued my mind, but the sight of my best friend for years in such a state.
