Alex didn't need to worry about being seen as thanks to the pale light and dark coloration of the plants his [shadow camouflage] trait obscured him. Alex had a sneaking suspicion that this particular trait wasn't going to be very useful against whatever lived here since they had likely evolved to cope with constant low light conditions. 'Alright time to see what is what in this place.' he thought before walking into the forest. Alex could only sigh because the moment he did so his [night vision] trait activated to allow him to see , proving his suspicion right.
Alex was well aware that anything that could see through darkness would notice him without any problem at all since he would be a solid thing in a spot that those without that ability would only see shadow. Thankfully the first creature Alex came across was a centipede the size of a person that clearly didn't care that he was there letting him kill it in no time at all. Devouring the corpse Alex got a notification from the system telling him that he got two traits from it , [enhanced smell] and [ambidextrous].
The first trait Alex already had so it merely got turned into an extra level for the original. The second trait however was uncommon rank but had a high unlocking cost of nearly a thousand uses of non dominant limbs. Alex was very excited about this trait however as he could tell that if he unlocked it his ability in combat would grow massively. While the [apex muscles] trait insured that he was perfectly balanced strength wise no mater the limb he used he still had to deal with the awkwardness that came with using a limb you don't normally for a task your dominant limb would do , this new trait will remove this.
As alex traveled through the forest he found more and more insect type creature but no mammals or reptiles yet. One thing that all the insects shared however was the massive size's that they had compared to the insects on the surface. Even hornetaurs that were close to the size of domestic cats on earth were dwarfed by these bugs. Alex hadn't seen a single insect smaller than a person so far in the forest. Alex had of course sampled each and every type of new insect he came across earning several traits in the process.
[Enhanced scales] , [armored scales] , [weaponized horns] , [explosive poison] , [light resistance] , [impact resistance] , [toxirosys] and [additional limbs: wings]. These were the traits Alex had gotten from various different insects he had hunted in the forest so far. He already had all of them however save for two , [weaponized horns] and [explosive poison]. This meant most of these trait rose a level with [additional limbs: wings] even maxing out at nine. The two traits he didn't have however came from two VERY aggressive insects he came across. The first looked like a massive stag beetle with horns that had sharp edges and glinted in the dull light in a metallic manner.
Alex was far too powerful to be hurt by the insect unless he chose to act like a punching bag , which he did not. The second of these two insects however actually did hurt Alex a little because he simple hadn't expected to come across an insect like the bombardier beetle in this world and got sprayed with it's explosive poison as a result. Having the equivalent to a grenade go off at point blank range on his chest and face was not a pleasant experience at all.
In fact it made him violently angry at himself for letting down his guard in this forest despite not knowing what was here. After spending a few minutes regenerating from the heavy bruising he got from the explosion Alex could only appreciate the rare ranked trait he had gotten from the beetle. Even if his own version was way weaker than the beetles at level one so long as he increased that he could become a severe nuisance for other monsters. Take nergigante for example that with this trait could only helplessly suffer constant explosions to the face as Alex just sprayed it with the poison and ran away.
