Rune
**
There was a presence, sneaking up and staring down at her. It smelt like a male, a young human male. She knew if she looked up, she might scare him away as he would be caught off guard. So, she acted like she was oblivious to his presence, and went about doing her business of watering the flowers.
But why was he gazing down at her with so much interest? She hated it when they stare so much. She had gotten the stares so much that she had only learned to hate it and the people who stare too.
She knew she looked different from a regular human. They all looked different just and her distinctive features were the most obvious.
Her twin sister had distinctive features too and so does the rest of them but luckily, they had theirs in the most hidden part of her body while hers reflected on her face, eyes, and hair.
That was what got her into trouble before, it had always gotten her into trouble because there were always people who would pry after noticing something was off about her and so, they were always on the run. She had lost count of how many cities and towns they have run and relocated to in the past. She only hoped at least they would last longer here before the inevitable happens. Even though this time they did not run and relocated because of prying humans who would somehow discover one of their secrets and would one way or the other blackmail or want to expose them.
It was very easy for them to get rid of that kind of people but they were not the wild ones. They were the ones fighting off the wild ones and trying as best as they could to protect the innocents as much as they could.
It was even harder now with the wild and sometimes, humans always on their tails and her sickness too. The others had been trying so hard to look for answers and save her but she couldn't help but think that she would perish. Finding the cure seemed impossible now, not after their numerous wild goose chases. There were so many what-ifs. What if the wild got to the cure first and terminate it? Her hope, the only chance she had would be gone.
It was unfortunate that the wild knew about her sickness now and were also looking for ways to locate and terminate the cure for her.
She knew the wild was more vicious and well-informed than they were. They were the ones who led them to this Orange City, they heard the cure was here. If fate wants it that she survives, they would find it before time runs out. That was why they bought the most available house in the neighborhood even though it looked wretched. They had to spend a whole lot on it to spice it up to their taste.
She was watering the flowers but her conscious mind had wandered off again. The slow landing of a white sheet of paper in front of her returned her sanity. It came from up so, she slowly brought her head up. However, she found the paper had dropped from the young human male who had been staring down at her. Now, her eyes collided with his and she watched him stumble down. He must have broken a bone as the loud thud of his landing on the floor filled her eyes and she couldn't help but squeeze a corner of her face. He definitely broke a bone, that must have hurt.
But why did he jolt away like that? As if he had just seen a ghost. Did she look ugly now?
Scary maybe?
She touched her face immediately and caressed her cheek to see if there was probably a stain on it. She had previously eaten pasta, maybe she's got a stain of it on her face?
When she discovered her face was clean, she wondered what was wrong with him then. He could just be a psycho or a pervert. She had seen it in movies how some perverts stalk on women they got obsessed with. Well, it was too early to earn herself a stalker.
The breeze that blew the sheet of paper forward reminded her he did drop it. Out of curiosity, she leaped forward like a tiger leaps on its prey and caught the paper in her hand. It almost slipped away, the breeze was using the paper as an element to play hide and seek with her.
The side that was turned to her was empty so, she turned it to the other side and her big candy eyes widened immediately.
This... This drawing.
How did he….?
Her instincts were not wrong, she knew something was off about him.
Could he be one of the wild?
She glanced back up maybe if she looked close, he could be someone she knew but the space in front of the window where had he stood and stumble was empty. He was gone.
This was big, so big she should inform the others now.
It would suck if they have been discovered though, they came all the way from afar to this place to settle for a least a year maximum but it would be cut short now?
They would run from here again before they even got to settle down?
No, that would suck!
She dropped the watering pipe in her hand without bothering to switch off the tap while the water splattered about their little beautiful garden, She stormed in whilst different emotions swirled within her. She felt like she was slowing the others down. She knew how strong they could be and how well they coil fight the wild but because of her illness they were more focused on finding the cure for her now and it was taking its toll on them.
Still busy with her thoughts, she did not see Fender who was holding a box to be unpacked in his hand until he squealed in his usual annoying, feminine manner " You always find the worst times to showcase your irking specialty Rune?" He flickered his fingers and scoffed at her before pushing her to a side with his body and walking in. The paper dropped again and she had to bend to pick it.
She stood a bit and stared at his receding steps before shouting back at him " I have no time for you now Mr/ Mrs. Fender " she made sure her voice was as sarcastic as it could be.
Yeah, that was Fender. One of their Nature Family, that is what the wild call them, the Nature Family even though they were not related in any way.
They were all original animals. She was the original female cat while Fender who she just bumped into was the original rat. Every one of them comes in two versions which was male and female. It doesn't matter their gender. A female original could represent a male animal the way her twin sister was female but she was the original male cat.
One could be wondering what was special about being an original animal but a lot was special about it. For one, she could control female cats, and just the way the regular cat had elevated hearing, she had the capacity of having triple time that elevated hearing ability and with her spit, she could blind a being when she spat into their eyes. She was a really powerful one, she and her twin sister but she had gotten to the stage of her finale now, it was either she finds her cure or she perish.
At a point, all the originals get to their finale, and the few lucky ones find their cures while the doomed ones never did and so, they perish. It was nature's way of putting an end to their dominance.
As it seems, she would be one of the doomed ones. Funny how she was not even scared. Maybe after living since the creation of the earth, perishing would be a rest and escape for her. But for the others, she couldn't wish such because her presence matters to them.
Now, she was going to take this drawing to Farris, he was the original horse and also their leader. He seemed to be the strongest among them and his leadership quality made everyone subconsciously assume him as the man of the Nature Family. The wild were so many and they were only few in number. They should be ten but they were yet to find the last two domesticated original animals.
They could be living or perished. Also, they only have a gender for each original except for Rune and her twin sister.
Farris and the rest of the family would be taken aback by this drawing and that sneaky suspicious boy next door would have a taste of their wrath if he was what she presumed he was.
