In this world, most people went to bed early and rose with the sun—the time after the sun faded was dangerous. The dim light from the Creation of the World made the distortion of the entire world peak, and even though the city had lights for protection, people had to face the night with caution.

Unable to go out and gather, with limited means of entertainment, reading books at night was not as dangerous as reading at sea, but it could easily lead to mental exhaustion, auditory and visual hallucinations. At times, it could even attract unwanted prying from the darkness. Hence, after considering all factors, the safest course of action was to go to bed early and wait for the sun to rise the next day.
